Let's Chat: Aaron on the Mystic Majestic X Wave Harness
The Mystic Majestic X Wave Harness - A Review
There’s a lot of hype in the market about hard-shell kiteboarding harnesses. And for good reason—they work amazingly well.
This morning I had a go on the 2017 Mystic Majestic X Wave Harness while kiteboarding. Normally, I wouldn’t have strayed from my previously favorite harness brand, but one of the guys here at the shop talked me into it.
I wear a size 34 in pants and shorts and would have normally opted for a size large harness. I was surprised when the Majestic X fit me really well in size medium. I should also add that I like pizza and I don’t exercise enough, so the muffin-top starter kit is beginning to show.
In the past, I wasn’t a fan of Mystic Kiteboarding’s spreader bar locking system. In my opinion, it was too hard to open, especially with cold hands. Mystic has since fixed that problem and it works great. It’s still a similar system but requires much less pinch force to open it now. Well done.
Something that I’ve heard people talking about with regard to hard-shell harnesses, is the lack of rib squeeze due to the rigid back plate. “Whatever”, I thought. “How much difference can it really make?” Well—quite a lot, actually. It’s one of those things that you don’t even notice until it’s not there. This morning, while riding the Mystic Majestic X Wave Harness, I noticed that I wasn’t being squeezed. Now, what exactly does that mean, you ask? The rigid back-plate of the harness doesn’t collapse under load and put pressure on your ribs. That means you can actually breathe much easier while kitesurfing. Plus, with the X Wave (slider bar), the harness doesn’t ride up or slide around. Two very big bonuses.
Another thing I appreciated about this harness was the weight. The Majestic X is seriously light, and it didn’t seem to absorb much water when it got wet. Also, be sure to grab yours with an extra Mystic ClickerBar 4.0 Spreader bar, so you can swap back and forth between surf and freestyle riding.
