Why I Ride a Dakine Renegade Kiteboarding Harness

How did you size your harness?
I am 6’2 175 lbs with a 32-33” waist. I wear a medium harness as it provides the perfect amount of adjustment to securely fit with a 1mm wetsuit top to 5mm wetsuit. I find the 25cm spreader bar is perfect as it extends just before my hip bones so the harness wraps properly around my hips.
Why do I ride the Dakine Renegade?
Its simple minimalist design provides the perfect balance of support, stability, and comfort. My lower back never hurts or gets sore after hours on the water. It has no pressure points and allows for a wide range of motion. I started out on the Renegade then moved to the Renegade Hybrid which offers the greatest range of motion as it is very simplistic. I am eager to try the new Renegade soon as it appears that it has more support - a mix between a soft and hard shell harness. Time will tell as I have yet to find a hard-type shell that does not hurt my body shape after about 30 minutes on the water.
Hook or rope? Long or short leash?
90% of my riding I use a hook for twintip, foil, and surf. It is hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I plan to use a rope for foiling and strapless surf much more this year. The only thing that has held me back is finding a rope bar that integrates well with Dakine. It has been a challenge. I do not do any handle passes so I rock a short leash and love it.
