Four Funky Kite Products for 2022

Okay, I think we all can admit that 2022 has been another weird year and the weirdness hasn’t been limited to just current events. Over the last year or so we have seen some funky products start to pop up in the kite market from new travel accessories, safety gear, and even some new foils.

Let's take a dive into some of these new kiteboarding accessories and see if you might need to add any to your arsenal of accessories.

Eleveight Revo Kiteboard Handle

We’ll start this out strong with an interesting new accessory from Eleveight: the Revo Handle. The Revo Handle is a new grab handle that allows you to change the flex and rocker of your kiteboard on the fly with a simple twist of the handle.

You can flatten the rocker of your board and increase the stiffness of your board to improve light wind performance.

Like most people when you tell them about a new product that should improve performance, I was skeptical. Well, I actually laughed at my rep on the phone when he first told me about them. To say that I was skeptical about the whole flex-changing handle idea was an understatement.

However, after going to AWSI and seeing the handle in person and how it actually manipulated the board, I was actually impressed by it and after riding it, I have to admit it does actually work. Now, are you getting a night and day difference in board performance by adding this handle to your board? No, but it does help with the upwind and light wind performance of a twintip.

If you're looking to gain every little bit of performance out of your current twintip, the Revo Handle is the perfect addition for you.

Ride Engine Micro Pumps

Have you ever gotten to the beach and thought to yourself “Man, I wish I had a smaller pump? This WMFG tall pump is just way too much for me to haul around today.”

All jokes aside, this was the first thought that I had when Lucas told me we were bringing in the Ride Engine Micro pump. Boy, did I eat my words on this one after using one myself and going on a few trips. The extra portability and weight savings you get while packing is well worth the few extra pumps it may take to inflate your wing or kite.

The pump is so compact that I can actually get it to fit into one of my compression bags with the kite in it. This blew me away. Gone are the days of traveling without a pump hoping to pick one up locally or worrying about being over the weight limit of the airline you are flying.

The Micro pump is here to stay and has found a welcome home in my assortment of kite travel accessories.

Armoured Labs Nano Coating

Okay, this next one is a bit of a mouthful, but a new addition to our accessory list I found while rummaging through the depths of the MACkite warehouse is Armoured Labs SURF Premium Series Marine Grade Ceramic Nano Coating.

Yes, that’s the full name of the product - a bit wordy, but really gets the point across. First question I had was “What the heck is this stuff and why is it here?”

This stuff is actually pretty sweet. Tucker said he had been using it for some time now and he actually has noticed some improvement in performance. You simply spray it on a board or foil then wipe off the excess with a microfiber cloth. Adding this to the bottom of a board reduces suction and drag, allowing you to get up on foil faster.

The part of this product that I am really excited for is the added UV protection it can add to wings and kites. UV is the number one killer of kites and wings so if spraying this stuff on every few sessions prolongs the life of a kite, sign me up. I’ll have to do some more in depth testing this coming summer, but for being a product that I was super skeptical about in the beginning, I’m actually excited for the spring to do some testing and see how well this stuff works for myself.

Spex Eyewear

Eyewear for on the water is a problem that I have struggled with myself since I got into kiting. I’ve run the gamut from high-end glasses with some kind of lanyard to keep from losing them to cheap gas station glasses that inevitably break when I accidentally sit on them driving to the beach.

You name it, I have tried it until we brought Spex Amphibian Eyewear into the shop. Now, you might not win any fashion shows with these glasses, but they do a great job of keeping your eyes protected well on the water.

Being a combo of sunglasses and goggles, they are surprisingly comfy and flexible. The best part about them is that they float, so when you inevitably drop them off of your head you don’t need to worry about them sinking. Just kite back over to them and put them back on.

If you're looking for the ultimate in eye protection and style, give the Spex Eyewear a view.
