Duotone Wing Academy | Flipping Your Wing

Flipping Your Wing On the Beach

Flipping the wing is an essential technique which you will need in many situations. The basic steps are similar whether you flip your wing on the beach or in the water. But flipping a wing on the water can be a challenge. So let's show you how it's done.

First, position the wing directly downwind of you. The leading edge or front tube should be facing towards the wind. Grab the front handle with one hand and reach out to the side with your second hand. Now grab the leading edge with both hands around halfway to the tip.

The hand closer to the center of the wing should be below the leading edge. The hand closer to the wing tip should be above. Flip the wing to the other side by pushing the hand closer to the center up and the hand at the tip down. As soon as the wing is fully flipped, move your hands back to the center of the wing and reach for the front handle.

Flipping Your Wing in the Water

You will also frequently need to flip the wing in the water. Just follow the same steps while kneeling on the board and grab the wing closer to the tip to flip it. Whenever you lose balance, just lower the wing and let it touch the water for more stability.

Let's remember the key elements:

  • Position the wing directly downwind of you.
  • Grab the leading edge with both hands closer to the tip.
  • Flip the wing and reach back to the handle on the leading edge.
