2024 Slingshot Slingwing V4 Overview

2024 Slingshot Slingwing V4 Overview

Pat is at King of the Great Lakes Test Fest with Ty from Slingshot. They're checking out the new V4 Slingwing for 2024.

Pat: Ty, what's new this year? Has there been a bit of redesign?

Ty: I love the Slingwing V3 and think it's an amazing wing, but for V4 we narrowed the profile down a little bit, which tightened up the canopy. The marketing term we use is "high tension high performance", and you feel it when you pump because there's so much more efficiency in this tight canopy. However, the trailing edge is a little loose, allowing it to twist off when you're floating while you're riding a swell. This allows a bit more control and it floats so smoothly.

Ty: The handles are sweet. They have a sort of teardrop profile. We got it from lacrosse handles. I've never played lacrosse, but they've got the handle in their hand all day long and it's still comfortable. I love these handles and they work great. The other thing that I really love is the extended front end. More often than not when I'm riding a swell, I'm holding onto that handle instead of going all the way up to the luff handle. It gives you a little bit more control of the wing and it's easier to quickly go back in a transition.

Ty: The other incredible thing about the narrower draft is that it shoots into the wind. I can pump efficiently to get up, and then just race into the wind and ride all day long down the swell. It's always an advantage if you can rip upwind and get above where you launched from.

Pat: I was seeing the guys out in Hood River blasting upwind.

Ty: Yeah, in Hood River you can just ride and ride and ride up the river all day long. I got to try this down in La Ventana last year and just fell in love. The V3s are great, but this is the next step.

Pat: One other cool thing with the handles is that they're removable this year, right? So for traveling you can break it down a little bit easier and pack things a little bit smaller.

Ty: Yep. You can pack the wing with the handles as is, and you do get a little bit bigger bag this year, but by taking them off, you can use those vacuum bags to get down really tiny. It's a great wing, and if you get a chance to try it, that's the best way to discover how awesome it is.

Pat: The windows are integrated really nicely. It's pretty streamlined and slick. I was really impressed with that, and it was one of the things that stood out to me with the wing. I usually try to avoid wings with windows, but that one is integrated super well.

Ty: I use it a lot on the snow as well, and that was my first question: is this going to hold up in the snow, and is it going to hold up to rolling it up in the cold? They said no problem, so we're good. The designer built it with the understanding that we're going to use these in the winter and it's incredible, so you don't have to be worried about rolling the window extra carefully.

For sizing, we have 7.5 down to 2.5m. The biggest decision you're going to have is how many to get. I have four.

Pat: That's awesome. Thanks so much for running us through the new Slingwing V4. If you have any questions, reach out to us at the shop and we'll get you taken care of and get you a new quiver.
