Wing Surf School | The MACkite Method | Lesson 5 Safety Basics
Welcome back to wing school. This weeks lesson will include some basic safety information and some drills you can practice on the water to ensure a safe session every time.


Self Rescue Drill
This drill is useful for getting out with your wing or coming back in when you are done riding. The great thing about wing surfing is once you let go, the ride is over. All you have to do is paddle back on your standup paddle board!
To do a self rescue, you will hold the wing with your feet. Practice paddling like a surfer while carrying your wing with your feet. Always swim parallel and towards the shore.
Depending on the wind direction, you may not be able to hold the wing with your feet. For example if the wind is blowing onshore, you can simply leave the wing in the water in front of you and paddle parallel, and towards the shore.
A Note on Offshore Winds
Heads up. We recommend beginners do not try and ride when the wind is blowing away from shore. We'll cover all the wind directions in the next lesson.
