MACkite Wrist Cuff and Wing Leash Assembly Guide

The MACkite wrist cuff plus leash is a universal system for wings of any size. Adjusting its length is easy, and so is attaching it to your wing. Ryan takes us through the steps to get your leash on and ready for the water.

What Makes the Leash Adjustable?

The leash is actually comprised of three segments. It ships as a long leash that you can run with your larger wings. If you want to use it with your smaller wings, all you have to do is take off one or both of the extensions at the ends. It is a simple, universal, fits-all solution.

Ryan shows how long the leash is as he holds it in his outstretched arms.

Leash Sizing for Your Wing

  • 7M Wing: Use the long leash plus both segments (all three segments total).
  • 5M Wing: Use the long leash plus one segment.
  • 3M Wing: Use the long leash and remove both segments.

How to Remove a Segment

To take one of the segments off, look for its connection to the long leash segment and push these two ends toward each other. Pull the line through and then pull the loop out. Now you have one extension off and one still on the line, making it a bit shorter for a typical 5m wing. Repeat this to remove the second extension for a 3m wing leash.

Ryan demonstrates how to remove a segment from the main leash.

Attach Cuff to Leash

It's easier if you attach your wrist cuff to the leash before attaching the leash to the wing. And if you take an extension off, it'll be even easier because you'll have a longer loop to work with.

Tip: Need the full leash length for a larger wing? You can still take advantage of a larger loop by taking the extension off one end and adding it back on to the other so you've got both extensions at the same end.

To put the leash on the wrist cuff, open up the small loop on the cuff and feed the leash through. If you're using at least one extension, feed that end through. Now open up the small loop on the leash and feed the entire length of the leash through there, and then pull it tight. It is now attached.

Attach to Your Wing

To attach the leash to your wing, use the larger loop end. If your leash attachment point has a knot, you can simply lark's-head it on. Open up the leash loop, push some of the leash through the loop until it forms an adjustable loop, then slide the wing's knot through that loop and pull it nice and tight.

If there is not a knot where you are attaching it on the wing, you can feed the leash loop through the attachment point. Now open up the cuff so it's long and flat and pull it and the rest of the leash through this loop. Just like that, your leash is attached.

Attaching to Your Wrist

To strap the leash to your wrist, you will un-Velcro the cuff. There is a metal loop on the wrist cuff; simply feed that Velcro strap through the metal loop and double it back onto itself. It is easy to open and adjust for a variety of wrist sizes. It's got a nice, long strap that will accommodate wetsuits as well, so you do not have to worry about it being too small if you are wearing a thick wetsuit.
