The Specs & Tech Behind F-One's FRIGATE Parawing
The FRIGATE is one of the latest pocket wings on the market, and it's definitely got the shop excited for the future of downwind foiling. For such a small wing, it's packed with plenty of features and technology to keep it light, efficient, and ready at a moment's notice. Let's break down what makes the FRIGATE one of the most anticipated wings on the market:
What is a FRIGATE?
The F-One FRIGATE is part of an evolving trend in wing foiling. Unlike its inflatable counterparts like the Strike or K-Wing models, it's a single-skin parawing that is meant to stash and deploy quickly. It's a valuable tool for quick upwind rides and long, controlled downwinders.
Who is the FRIGATE for?
In our opinion, it's designed for seasoned riders, especially those familiar with downwind riding, who needs a more minimalist design that allows for better freedom of movement, speed, precision, and autonomy.
Features of the F-One Frigate
Dynamic Bridle System
The Dynamic Bridle System on the FRIGATE optimizes the sail's shape without the need for manual adjustments. It's an innovative, pulley-free system that automatically adjusts the different tensions of the sail, maintaining tension throughout even when fully depowered. This design solves the common problems associated with pulleyed systems ā now, you'll have less added weight, less risk of tangling, and a simpler system. The top-quality LIROS bridles offer excellent resistance to abrasion and are highly dependable thanks to it's optimized diameter and rigidity.
This Dynamic Bridle System leads to:
- Maximized performance in high and low-end conditions
- Better upwind performance
- Fewer creases
- Reduced tangles
The color-coding on the bar, bridle, and leading edge show instant wing orientation for safer, more confident water relaunches.
Canopy
The FRIGATE single-skin canopy is made from state-of-the-art, high-end Porcher fabric, well known in the paragliding world. It's known for it's quality, rigidity, and durability under stress, like during launch or when exposed to harsh sunlight. The material is also waterproof, making it easier to relaunch, even if it falls in the water.
Bar
The FRIGATE comes with a lightweight carbon bar with a comfortable 3D grip, allowing for smooth, natural movements. It's an ultra-simple design with no unnecessary hooks, which helps avoid snags and makes stashing easier.
The bar comes in two sizes (29cm and 41cm) and comes automatically with the pocket wing. Note: The 41cm is designed only for the 4.7m size.
Ribs & Rods
Thanks to the wing's stiff leading edge, optimized canopy tension, and minimalist bridle system, the FRIGATE has reduced draft and optimal airflow. This brings stability, performance, and an extended wind range.
Its aerodynamic design, in part due to its structured mini-ribs and diagonal D-ribs, generates a forward pull that excels ad going upwind, combining immediate power with efficient acceleration. In the low end, the wing offers constant power with minimal effort. Subsequently, it remains stable and predictable in the high-end, even when the wind increases.
