Reedin SuperModel AFT Kite: Designer Notes with Damien Girardin
Straight from the windy beaches of Cape Town, Damien Girardin sat down with the Brazilian Brothers to walk them through the massive updates for this 7th generation kite. If you have been following Reedin, you know they are always looking for ways to refine the experience, and this year is no exception.
Aerolite Frame Technology
The biggest update you will notice on this 7th generation is the shift to Aerolite Frame Technology (AFT).
Reedin has been testing this new leading edge material on their wings for two seasons, and it is now ready for the SuperModel. It is a high-tenacity polyester weave that offers a unique combination of stiffness and flex. While the material is incredibly stiff along the weave to hold the kite's arc, it still allows for the necessary twist that makes a kite turn quickly and predictably.
The introduction of this material makes the SuperModel even more snappy, smooth, and fun to ride compared to previous generations.
Weight Reduction Without Compromise
One thing we love about Damien's approach is how he questions every single piece of the kite during the design phase. Following the development of the high-end BrainChild series, the team looked for ways to bring those weight-saving lessons to the Supermodel AFT.
By questioning how every component is assembled and where materials are placed, they have managed to create one of the lightest Dacron three-strut kites on the market today. We know that a lighter kite translates directly to better performance, especially when the wind gets light.

Why Weight Matters for Your Session
You might wonder why we are so focused on saving a few grams here and there. A lighter kite flies better because it has less inertia. When the kite is lighter, it responds to your input faster, snaps into position during a jump, and is easier to relaunch.
Damien also points out that less weight taking the kite down means more energy for you to jump higher and glide further. Whether you are working on your first backroll or pushing your limits in a storm, a more responsive kite makes everything feel easier.
The Ultimate All-Rounder
The philosophy behind the SuperModel has always been about versatility, and that hasn't changed. This kite is designed for what Damien calls the "regular kiter" — it's versatile, works for everyday conditions, and backed by the success of its previous generations.
Most of us don't have perfect flat water or ideal waves every single day. We ride in changing conditions, through storms and fronts, and we want one kite that can handle it all. Whether you are on a twintip, a surfboard, or a foil, the Supermodel AFT is built to adapt to your style and the conditions of the day.
We are hyped to see these kites hitting the water. If you are looking for a kite that is light, snappy, and ready for anything you throw at it, the Reedin Supermodel AFT should be at the top of your list.
