How to eFoil - Waydoo Flyer ONE Plus

Learning to eFoil is a three-step process: You'll start on your stomach, progress to your knees, and finally, once you're comfortable, progress to a standing position.

Learn to Control the Board While on Your Stomach

  1. Lie flat on your stomach in gear one, putting your arms out to balance yourself.
  2. Lean with your weight from left to right on the board to adjust your direction.
  3. Change your speed between gears 1 - 4 to become more familiar with the board.

Get on Foil While On Your Knees

  1. Slowly get up on your knees in the middle of the board, again with your arms out to balance from left to right. Become confident in leaning to turn the board and in changing gears to adjust your speed.
  2. Once you are comfortable with the above step, lean backwards ever so slightly until the nose just comes out of the water and you begin to fly. If you don't have enough speed to fly, increase your gear level slightly until you do.
  3. As soon as you start to fly, lean forward again and touch back down.
  4. Repeat these very short 1 - 2 second flights. Slowly increase the amount of time that you stay in the air as you become more and more confident. Take your time; the key to success is slowly increasing the amount of time that you're spending in the air. You'll gradually learn how the eFoil balances while flying, and you'll be able to stay up longer and longer.

Ride While Standing

  1. To progress to the standing position, move your front foot to the front of the board. Get up into position as slowly as possible. Your foot position on the board, compared to a surfboard, is quite different. Have your back foot facing out slightly, with your front foot facing forward and your chest open to the front. This will give you the best stability on the eFoil.
  2. You'll use your front foot to apply pressure on the front of the board to keep the nose in the water, and you'll lean backwards and shift your weight slightly to allow the nose to come up. You'll control the pitch of the board by moving your shoulders and your head forwards and backwards, with the weight over your front leg. Keep your knees slightly bent so you can apply pressure and make changes.
  3. Practice going from your knees to standing multiple times until you feel confident getting quickly into position and standing up. Once you're familiar with the position, you can progress to flying.
  4. While standing up, put a bit of pressure on your back foot. The board will come out of the water and you will begin to fly. Put pressure on your front foot and touch down again.
  5. Repeat this multiple times, doing short touch-and-gos. Progress to longer ones until you can stay up in the air steadily.

Now that you've mastered the basics, you should be able to get up and eFoil. Remember to practice each step thoroughly before moving on to the next. Doing things too quickly often leads to falling off more often and losing confidence, and then it will end up taking you much longer to learn to eFoil. Once you've got the basics down, your balance will improve and each session of eFoiling will become better and better.
