CWS Foil Drive V2 Hardware Review & Setup Guide

Ryan chats about the CWS Foil Drive V2 hardware from Custom Blue Foil Solutions, designed to make assembling a Foil Drive setup easier. This hardware is especially if you don't have an integrated mast or a mast that you can leave connected to your setup.

CWS Foil Drive V2 Hardware Options

The hardware comes in M6, M7, and M8 sizes to fit various setups. There's a countersunk nut option, and an M6 flat nut for masts that require a flat connection rather than a countersunk one. For tools, the M6 and M7 hardware uses a 12mm wrench, while the M8 requires a 13mm wrench.

Assembly and Setup Walkthrough

The assembly process is quick and straightforward. First, spin the nuts off and drop the bolts into the track. You'll notice they stick up slightly lower than the bottom of the trench board, which means they'll stick up just a little above the unit once it's in place.

Next, line up the Foil Drive unit where you want it. You can line the bolts up with the Foil Drive base kit and get them approximately where the mast is going to be. This setup is very slick when paired with the new Foil Drive Mini Pod. Once the unit is dropped on, you can see the bolts sticking up, which makes it easy to put the mast on.

After grabbing your mast, line it up and slide the bolts into position. Once the mast is in the appropriate spot for the cable length you're using, grab the four nuts and finger-tighten them. To finish the job quickly, use a socket wrench to tighten them down. Finally, slide your motor into position and latch down the Mini Pod.

Disassembly and Versatility

The teardown process after your session is just as fast. Unlatch the pod, loosen the nuts with your wrench, and spin them off by hand. Once the nuts are removed, your mast is free and you can take the Foil Drive unit off the board.

One helpful tip: if the bolts stick up further than you'd like for your particular setup, you can cut them down so they're flush with the top of the nut. This hardware is incredibly handy if you're dual-purposing a board between prone foiling, wing foiling, and Foil Drive — it's a much faster way to get in and out of the water.
