Wing Foiling | Are the Wind Conditions Holding You Back?
You're learning to wing foil... at least, you're trying. Other people are out, cruising around and having a blast, but you just can't seem to even get up. What are you doing wrong? Tucker and Jeff have good news- it might not be you.
Tucker: It's important to learn that there are a lot of variables at play. As a new rider, you're pretty disadvantaged compared to someone who's really efficient or has specialized gear.
Jeff: That is a very good point. As in any sport, there is a bell curve. There are those outliers who can cheat the low end and do things that other people can't. A foil is very efficient and you can have fun in lighter wind than you can in other wind sports.
Tucker: You've just got to get up first.
Jeff: That's right. You've got to get up and ride and experience what it feels like to take flight in order to gain that skill. Don't be too hard on yourself. It may be the conditions that you're trying to learn in that are actually holding you back.
While you will still learn a lot by going out when the wind is too light to foil, be sure to get out on a day when you have plenty of wind and don't have to struggle to get up on foil. Once you develop the muscle memory to get up and ride confidently, then you can go out on those light days and have fun.
