Session Report: 2018 North Dice

Session Report: 2018 North Dice

My first session on the 2018 North Dice 13m was solid! Yeah, man—I can actually still stick a few basic unhooked tricks after riding nothing but surfboards for the past season—old-guy stoked.

The 2018 North Dice received some significant mods but is still the same intermediate to advanced-level performance kite that we've come to know. North tweaked the radius of the kite, along with the leading edge diameter and steering speed to give us an even more progressive freestyle kite this year.

The Dice has a solid feel, without any heavy bar pressure. You can always tell right where it's at without looking directly at the kite. The turning speed, even of the 13m, was quick as always. I could be biased, however, because we fly a lot of medium sized kites here on the Great Lakes, but I thought it was spot-on for the size.

Jumping and looping with the Dice is performance oriented but totally manageable. If you really send it, the boosts are quick and powerful. While the hang-time is not like that of the North Rebel, it's still quite fun. Just be ready with the landing gear.

If you're into it, riding unhooked with the Dice is where the magic happens. I love how you can get similar performance to that of the North Vegas, while still maintaining wind-range, relaunch and depower. I think you'll really enjoy learning unhooked tricks with the North Dice, as it is still quite forgiving.

I haven't had a chance to hit the waves with the 2018 North Dice just yet, but I'll be sure to update this post just as soon as I do.

Bottom line: the Dice is an exceptionally fun kite for those riders who like to actively fly their kites. I'm still recommending that you size-up one kite size to get what you're looking for, but that's not a big deal. It's just a number on the wing-tip—you'll get over that once you ride it.

Cheers to your next session, my friend.
