Reedin SnackPack: The Ultimate Wave Hybrid Twintip?

Reedin SnackPack: The Ultimate Wave Hybrid Twintip?

The Brazilian Brothers were in Cape Town with Damien Girardin, unveiling a brand-new product by Reedin: the SnackPack — one that promises to take kitesurfing to a whole other level by allowing you to have fun not only going out but also coming back in. It’s taking the game to the next level by bridging the gap between jumping and wave riding.

The Idea Behind the SnackPack

Damien Girardin, Reedin’s co-founder and designer, hasn't touched anything else in ten months since he got his first prototype. The core idea came from the frustration of having to pick between jumping or riding waves. Most riders find themselves choosing between a surfboard and a twintip depending on the conditions or what they want to do that session.

The goal was to have a board that is a twintip so you can jump like a twintip, but when you're coming back in, you can surf it like a wave board. The result? A board that's actually more fun than a wave board coming in! You're not trying to be a surfer on a directional board anymore — you're on an actual twin-tip, which means you can do an air, you have footstraps connecting you to the board, and you can land switch if you want to.

A New Way of Riding

Because it’s a twin-tip with footstraps, it changes how you handle different wind directions. For example, in Cape Town where the wind often comes from the left, a regular-footed rider might find riding a strapless directional board switch to be difficult. On the SnackPack, riding switch is easy and mind-blowing, and it changes your entire perception of the ocean.

Whether it’s a side-shore ocean wave or an onshore spot with wind swell and kickers, every wave you see becomes a kicker if you want it to be, and every kicker becomes a wave. The biggest benefit? You end up kiting twice as much because there is no rest. Usually, you rest coming in on a twintip or you rest going out on a wave board, but with the SnackPack, your brain just keeps going.

Riding waves with the Reedin SnackPack

This board allows for unique combos that weren't possible before. You can go out, do a kite loop, land, switch, and immediately go into surfing a wave. Or, you can be riding a wave and transition into an air kite loop going back out — it’s a whole new style of riding.

Who’s It For?

The SnackPack is for every person on a twintip who has only been looking at the ocean as a place to jump and thinks that riding a wave might be fun. While hardcore strapless riders who are already highly skilled and spend significant hours a week might stick to their directional boards, even pros like Kai Lenny have been on the SnackPack and absolutely loved it because it offers proper kitesurfing performance.

For the normal kiter who gets out on the weekends, you can get good so quickly on this board. It makes wave riding accessible to people who have always stayed on twintips. Even riders who have never ridden waves before find themselves having a ton of fun because they feel comfortable. Additionally, strapless riders have noted that when the waves get big, the SnackPack makes it easier to jump over the whitewater rather than having to jibe in front of a large set.

Board Sizes and Sizing Recommendations

The SnackPack comes in three specific sizes to accommodate different rider weights and conditions:

  • 142cm: Recommended for riders under 65kg.
  • 146cm: The go-to size for most riders, ideal for those between 65kg and 85kg.
  • 150cm: Recommended for riders above 85kg or for those riding in much bigger waves where extra float is beneficial.

First Impressions on the Water with Julian

During the Brazilian Brothers' inerview with Damian, Julian was kind enough to provide a few quick notes on his experience with the Reedin SnackPack. To him, the first thing you notice is how light the board feels. Even in onshore conditions with a light wind — riding something like a 12-meter Flysurfer Soul — the board goes upwind extremely well. The carving is a standout feature, feeling very interesting and cool on the face of the wave. To get the most out of it, you might find you need to shift your weight a bit more toward the front of the board compared to a traditional twintip, but once you find that sweet spot, it’s a blast.
