For those of us who may be coming off of a long, hard winter, it's time to lay out and inspect your kiteboard and wing foil gear for your first springtime sessions. There's nothing worse than waiting until you get to the beach to find out that you've got a hole in your kite or wing canopy.

Let's be smart and take care of it now!

Lay Out Your Gear and Check It Over

I like to lay out my kites and wings, and pump them all up to make sure I don't have any bladder leaks. Take a good walk around and inspect your canopies for any holes or abrasions that need to be patched. Be sure to also check your kite's bridle lines and connection points.

Next, you'll want to lay out your kite lines and examine your control bar. Pay close attention to your lines as you lay them out and watch for knots, cuts, or abrasions. This is also a good time to check your front and back lines for any stretching that may have occurred last season.

Be sure to have a close look at your chicken loop and trim system and make sure the safety release is in good working order.

For your wings, be sure to check your wing leash, and make sure the attachment points to the wing and to your wrist or waist harness are still solid.

How Do Your Boards Look?

Next, let's take a look at your boards. Take a moment to tighten the footstraps, fins, and board handles on your twin-tip. Got a kite surfboard? Check to make sure that your fins are tight and give a good lookover for any dings that might need to be repaired.

How about that foilboard? Gather up your foil gear and give it a quick assembly and disassembly to make sure that your bolts aren't frozen-up from last season. Look over your kite foilboard and wing foil board to make sure your foil mounting tracks are solid and free from any debris. Also, look for any dings on the boards that need to be repaired.

Got a vent plug on your wing foil board? Make sure you put it back into the board before hitting the water.

Does Your Kiteboarding Harness Still Fit This Spring?

Again, for those of us who may have just spent too much time on the couch during the windy offseason, now is a good time to make sure your kiteboard and wing foil harnesses still fit. Be sure to check the webbing straps, spreader bars, and buckles for any signs of excessive wear.

Does Your Wetsuit Have a Leak?

Hopefully, you put your wetty away nice and dry at the end of last season, because if you didn't, it's going to smell a bit funky. Make sure to go over the seams and body panels of your wetsuit to check for any holes that need patching.
