FLITELab AMP Jet | A Quick Glance
Foil assist can be a real game-changer for your sessions. You'll catch more waves, have less fatiguing downwinders, and wing on lighter days. There are some great options out there, but they all mount to your foil and come with the tradeoff of added drag. Foil Drive has done a good job of addressing this by allowing you to mount the propulsion unit high on the mast so it's out of the water anytime you're on foil, but FLITELab is looking to take this a step further with the AMP Jet.
What Is the AMP Jet?
The AMP Jet is a watertight cartridge that slides into the back of any AMP board. It provides drag-free propulsion at the back of the board, giving you up to 25kg of thrust to the next wave or an extra boost to get up on foil. As soon as you lift off, the power cuts out, ensuring maximum battery life.
How Does the Remote Work?
Rather than a handheld remote, the AMP Jet uses the LAUNCH Pad that's mounted into the nose of the board, allowing you to ride hands-free. You can not only set the power, strength, and timing of the boost, but it also collects session data that displays in real time on its display, as well as in the Flite app.
What If I Need to Travel with My AMP Jet?
The battery is airline-compliant right out of the box. It splits into sections that are projected to fall into the allowable range for flying. (Of course, you'll want to double check your airline's regulations before booking your flight.)
What Else Is Cool About the AMP Jet?
Since it's a cartridge that you can quickly install into your board, you can easily swap between the AMP prone or mid-length boards, which come in multiple sizes. The weight is centered right over the mast, so the swing weight is minimal. And if you want a session without the Jet, there is a foam insert you can use in its place, giving you a lightweight setup with the carbon layup board construction.
With the propulsion mounted into the board, you're free to use any foil setup you like, and you don't need to move your foil assist if you decide to swap masts.
If you fall while powered, the AMP Jet will sense that and instantly cut propulsion. Those on-shore might have found it funny to watch you flailing to catch up as your board zoomed off without you, but they'll just have to find another source of entertainment while your board waits patiently for you to climb back on.
Who's It For?
If you only want a boost to get you up to speed while you're still on the water and drag is an issue, this system is about as unobtrusive as it gets. It's sleek and it's stealthy. However, if you like to have power while you're up on foil, then you should look into a foil-mounted system.
Coming Soon...
The FLITELab AMP Jet is set to launch in July 2025, so reach out to us at the shop so we can put your name on one.
