2023 Cabrinha Moto X | Session Impression

This is Dustin and Cado here with the all new Cabrinha Moto X. We just got off the water with it, and we're going to do a quick session impression with beginner vs. advanced viewpoints on the kite.

Dustin: It was a windy day, and I was out on the 12m. It was blowing a pretty sustained 25-ish knots. It's a super boosty, lofty kite with jumbo jumps. It feels like an old Vector, for the people who've been with Cabrinha forever. It's a tuned-up Moto, and an unbelievable advancement for Cabrinha. I'm super stoked. It's definitely going to be the new golden child, as far as Cabrinha kites go. I think the Switchblade has a big competitor now. From an advanced standpoint, the jumps were awesome.

Cado: Yeah, which I wasn't expecting right off the bat. On my first tack out, based on the way it was turning and whatnot, I felt like it wasn't much of a jumping kite, but I did finally decide to send a jump, and I was really surprised at the power and how boosty it was.

Dustin: There were some great waves out there today, and the drift in the kite is pretty good, considering it's not really a "surf kite". It is a do-it-all, master of none, but I feel like once it warms up a bit here, it's going to be a great foil kite. I think if you had just the Moto X, you'd be able to cover every discipline of kiting: surfing, twintip, foiling... whatever your thing is, I think the Moto X is going to be an awesome kite for a one-kite quiver.

Cado: I agree. I had so much fun jumping into the waves once in a while. I feel like my session isn't fulfilled unless I've been able to jump and play in the waves a little bit, and this kite sealed the deal for that. I got to pay attention to the way I was riding the wave and really focus on the wave without worrying about what the kite's doing. It is more of an active-flying kite compared to the Switchblade and others like it, but I was still able to really focus on the wave and have fun in the waves.

Dustin: The bar pressure has lightened up from the last Moto. It's a bit more of a reactive kite than the last Moto, but you can still feel where the kite is at all times, which is nice. Then, when you need that little bit of extra power, you can just reef into it and it powers right up.

Cado: There's not a lot of forearm pump, which was nice. We were all suited up with thick gloves and you'd think that, over time, you'd really start to feel it in your hands, but I honestly could have kept riding if we didn't have to come to the shop.

Dustin: Yeah, for it being 25 degrees out, it wasn't too bad. So who's it for? I think this kite is for beginner to advanced riders in every discipline. It covers all bases, and Pat Goodman did an amazing job.

Cado: If you anticipate picking up the sport relatively quickly and you're already thinking that you can't wait to be able to jump and do tricks, I think this is probably the kite for you. It's going to progress with you, and you're not going to get bored of it right away like you might with a park-and-ride kite.

Dustin: This kite will be a tough one to outgrow, for sure. Like Cado said, it's a kite that's going to grow with you, for that beginner to intermediate rider, and all the way into advanced. Whatever you're looking for, the Moto is going to be. While it's not a big air kite, it's got great boosting to it, though the boosts are going to be a lot loftier.

Cado: It does have more boost than the previous Moto.

Dustin: For sure. You're not going to go up as quite as high as with a big air kite, but you're going to have longer, more sustained jumps.

Cado: I think it's going to surprise a lot of people. It seems like every year we have these do-it-all, three-strut kites that claim you can jump with it, you can surf with it, and so on, but that is what this is. You'll be really surprised with the boost in this case. As soon as you pull in, you're just to the Moon and you're really feeling it.

Dustin: This has been Dustin and Cado with MACkite. Thanks for checking out the all-new Moto X in our quick session impression. If you've got any questions, throw them our way, and we'll catch you next time.
