2018 Cabrinha Drifter Overview

In 2018 the drifter gets a make over. Slash the waves, ride the magic carpet or enter into advanced freeride.

Today we're going to be discussing the all-new 2018 Cabrinha Drifter. Now all new and for good reason, the Drifter has been redesigned for 2018. It's the first time it's been redesigned since its inception in 2012.

So whats up with the Drifter this year?

The Drifter has always been an exceptional surf kite, obviously given its name, its capable of drifting, cruising down the line. It's the kite that basically is there but you don't really know it. It turns nice and easy, doesn't loop with a bunch of power. It relaunches easy as well, it's super stable. However, it lacked a couple things for stuff outside of the surf.

Things that made it a great surf kite is kind of what hurt it in the freeride world and especially the freestyle world. For 2018 the Drifter has been redesigned to touch on a few of those other areas. Now, what does that mean? It's going to have an increased low-end. it turns a little bit lighter in the bar giving it a lighter feel. It jumps better, it's got a bigger range. Yet, the best thing about all these new features of the Drifter is that it doesn't affect it's ability to dominate in the surf.

The best thing about all these new features of the Drifter is that it doesn't affect it's ability to dominate in the surf.

The 2018 Drifter is much more well rounded.

So what you have now is the kite that can surf quite well, It's always foiled very well, but it foils even better now. It's a kite that you can go out there and launch massive jumps on if you're a free rider. If you're looking at getting into the waves a little bit it will still help you in those free ride situations but then you can advance your wave skills. The drifter is really a kite that's turned into a little bit of an allrounder. It doesn't have quite the low end as the Switchblade, it doesn't have quite the power as the Switchblade. However, if you're looking for a kite to take in the waves or for foiling that crosses over well, this is the kite you want to be on.  Whats nice is that when you reposition the kite, you turn it, or you loop it. It's not going to pull you off the board so it's got a really nice easy feel on the bar.

The future is looking bright for the drifter. The new colors are't bad either.

High tenacity Dacron.

The Drifter for 2018 includes the new high tenacity Dacron. What does that mean? It turns a little bit sharper. It returns to its original shape faster and then will maintain those characteristics much longer than the traditional Dacron materials do.
