Summer Memories with MACkite's Tucker
Summer Memories with Tucker
Welcome to September! September brings the introduction to many things: the changing of the leaves, the cold morning wind, and all things pumpkin (spice, pies, bread...the list could go on). As we welcome fall and all of its wonders - KoGL Test Fest, anyone? - we also feel a little nostalgic of a summer gone by. While we're working hard to make your kiteboarding dreams come true, we try hard to fulfill ours as well. Enter Tucker, our Shipping Manager and all-around foiling, windsurfing, and kiteboarding superstar.
Check out Tucker's story of his summer, filled with the excitement and wonderment similar to that of a child finding Christmas presents.
Tucker's Dealer Trip to the Bahamas
"After a long spring trip to the Outer Banks, most summers I stay close to home. Plus my newly acquired 4x4 van took a good chunk of my spending money. It is pretty hard to beat our beach town during the summer; however, this does mean I'm employing large kites such as the Cabrinha Contra, Best TS, Airush Lithium, and even HQ Matrixx II Foils on occasion. Thankfully, that was and was not the case this year.
While most of the wind this summer stayed on the light to only foil-able side, a few higher gems could be found later in the afternoon warranting kites as small as 7m. In those kind of conditions I stick with the tried and true kites that I know well. For waves in high winds it is hard to beat kites like the Switchblade, Lithium, RPM, and Evo. Their consistency and years of refinement make them smooth, predictable, and confident in the craziest of situations. The 2016 kites continue this legacy.
I had a chance to attend the Cabrinha dealer meeting in Grand Bahama.
While the wind never showed up seeing the new gear up close and speaking with the people responsible for its development is truly a great experience. I can't say enough about how hard the staff at Cabrinha works to make their gear as best as possible. The new Switchblade is the best yet, the FX is my personal favorite kite, and the new bar offerings have something for every taste and budget. I also learned how to windsurf...pause....yes, windsurf. Hey, anything is better in the Bahamas. ;)
I am looking forward to packing the new family rig for another eastbound trip this fall. This is arguably the best time to travel there due to the cost, winds, waves, and temperatures. If you end up traveling here, do not leave anything at home as you could likely fly 4m-17m kites in the same weekend.
Here's to a windy, wavy, and safe fall,
Tucker"
