Reedin SuperNatural V5 Overview: Lighter Weight, Boom Control, and Next-Level Efficiency

The Reedin SuperNatural has been a rider favorite for a while now, and for good reason. It's one of those wings that works for almost everyone. It's easy, balanced, and versatile. Now we're looking at V5, and the big question is: How do you make something better when it's already really good?

Jeff caught up with Damien Girardin in Tarifa to dig into what's changed, and what you'll actually notice on the water.

Damien and Jeff meet in Tarifa to talk about the new v5 SuperNatural wing.

So, What's New?

The short answer? It's lighter. Noticeably lighter.

But the interesting part is how Reedin got there. Instead of just throwing expensive materials at it, Damien went deep into the build itself:

  • Trimming unnecessary pieces
  • Rethinking how things are constructed
  • Cleaning up anything that didn't need to be there

"You question everything... and in the end, you save a lot of weight."

The end result:

  • About 200g lighter in the 4m
  • About 300g lighter in the 6m

And all without making it crazy expensive.

The SuperNatural wing floats as Jeff holds it by one hand.

Lighter, but Still Stiff Where It Matters

One thing Reedin didn't want to lose was that solid, predictable feel. So instead of just making everything thinner, they got smarter about it:

  • Fewer seams in the leading edge (less material overlap = less weight)
  • Reinforcements only where the load actually is (around the center strut)
  • A tweaked leading edge shape for better stiffness and less drag

There's also a reinforcement tape running along the leading edge that helps the wing hold its shape over time. So even as the wing ages, it's not getting baggy or losing that crisp feel.

Damien points to the reinforcing tape along the wing's leading edge.

What You'll Feel on the Water

Jeff took the SuperNatural out on the water and could definitely tell that all those little tweaks add up:

  • Better upwind drive
  • More speed
  • Lighter feel in your hands
  • Easier overhead float for tacks and jibes
  • Less of that "pushing you down" feeling overhead

Basically, it still feels like a SuperNatural, just a bit more lively and efficient.

Boom Only Now? Yeah, Let's Talk About It

This is probably the biggest sticking point for some riders: V5 is boom-only. If you've been a handle rider, that might sound like a dealbreaker, but Damien found that a lot of people are changing their minds after getting on it.

"I put someone on the boom... next day they say they don't need handles anymore."

Why people are liking the boom:

  • You can slide your hands anywhere
  • One-handed control is way easier and even helps when standing up
  • It just feels more connected overall

And there's a bonus benefit too. Because the boom adds structure, Damien can:

  • Use a thinner strut
  • Reduce materials
  • Save even more weight

Of course, a wing with handles packs down smaller, but Damien makes a fair point:
"Remember, you have a foil and a board, so you already have a big bag, and the boom packs right in."

Comfort was also something they really paid attention to. The shape and curve of the center strut make the boom feel a lot more natural and less fatiguing over a session. So even if you've been a die-hard handle rider, this setup might be worth a look.

Damien shows how thin the center strut is.

Who's This Wing For?

Just like previous models, the SuperNatural V5 is still for:

  • Newer riders getting into winging
  • Intermediates progressing
  • Experienced riders who want something light and efficient

It's one of those rare wings that doesn't pigeonhole you into one style.

Jeff holds the wing up by holding the boom.

Should You Upgrade?

If you're already on a SuperNatural, this one's not a total reinvention, but you will notice:

  • The lighter feel
  • The improved efficiency
  • The cleaner handling

And if you've been curious about trying a boom, this is as good a time as any.

Final Thoughts

Thankfully, Reedin didn't try to overhaul the SuperNatural, but with a few careful tweaks they were still able to:

  • Trim weight
  • Clean up the design
  • Make it a little more efficient

All while keeping what already worked. If you liked the previous versions, you're going to feel right at home here, just with a bit more performance baked in.

Damien and Jeff fist bump.
