Parawing Redeploy Tip: The Simple Trick for Clean Launches

Jeff caught up with Billy Ackerman from F-One on the beach, where they chatted about parawings. When Billy shared his simple technique for getting the wing back into the air, a light bulb went off in Jeff's brain.

Parawing Redeploy Tip

When you are ready to redeploy after a stow, a stash, or "trash bagging"—whatever you call it—the redeploy is a crucial moment. Jeff had previously been trying to toss the wing upwind with a little tension on the lines. While that works a lot of the time, there is a much more reliable way to power back up.

The Simple Trick You Need to Know

Instead of just tossing the wing and hoping for the best, Billy recommends an easier method:

  • Grab the leading edge of the wing at one of the tips or a single cell.
  • Keep holding that tip as you let the wing fall out and fill as it catches the wind.

Jeff holds the parawing by one cell at the leading edge.

If you hold the wing at one end and then let it drop and fan out, the air is naturally going to want to open the entire canopy. This results in no tangles and a much cleaner deployment.

Jeff drops the rest of the leading edge and the wing fills with air.

This tip will make the grab, stash, and redeploy journey a lot more fun. Instead of throwing a "trash bag" into the air and hoping it does what it needs to do, holding one tip makes the process chill and simple.

Jeff and Billy share a fist bump.
