Mystic Majestic Wing Harness Review

In this video, Jeff breaks down one of his go-to harnesses for winging: the Mystic Majestic Wing Harness. It's not only one of his personal favorites, but also a shop favorite for good reason.

When you're learning how to wing, you don't really need a waist harness. But, once you start progressing and can ride longer sessions, you're probably ready to step into one. Your arms and shoulders will thank you for the extra support!

Why Ride With a Waist Harness?

There are different schools of thought on harnesses. While some say you don't need one at all, Jeff is adamant that a good harness will not only extend your sessions, but it'll take the load off your upper body and make it easier to tack upwind. More ride time, less burnout.

Characteristics of the Mystic Majestic Wing Harness

There are a few reasons why this harness has become a MACkite favorite:

Stiffness & Support

The Mystic Majestic hits a good mix of stiffness and comfort. Mystic rates it at 4/10 for stiffness and 8/10 for torsional stiffness. That means it's not a rigid shell. It's firm enough to spread out the wing's pull without centering on any hot spots around your waist.

The slightly taller profile adds lower back support, too. Jeff has logged hundreds of miles on the Majestic without back pain and with noticeably less arm fatigue.

Key Features Jeff Loves

Easy Entry System

Dual Velcro closures on each side make it quick to get in and out. The closures are secure, and Jeff has never had them come loose under pressure.

Slide Hook

The hook can slide out of the way when you're getting up on your board, so you're not dinging your deck pad. Once you're riding, it slides right back into position. The hook itself is shaped so your harness line locks in easily but still releases smoothly for transitions. You can just swing the harness lines into the hook and it easily does the job.

Rear Attachment Points

There are two leash points on the back, one for the board and one for the wing, to let you rig however you like. If you are using this harness right out of the box, you'll need to either use a carabiner or a simple lark's head knot at the end of your wing leash to connect. Just be ready to loosen the harness and slide it over to reach the attachment points, since they sit a bit far back.

Padding, Floatation, & Weight

The Majestic features enough padding to stay comfortable. Just enough flex where it's not fully rigid, but rigid enough where it counts to take the pull of the wing's power. According to Jeff, the Majestic is a semi-hard shell harness.

While the harness does have a touch of float with non-absorbant foam, Jeff recommends an riding with an impact vest as well.

Is the Majestic Worth the Price?

At just over $200, it's not the cheapest harness out there. For Jeff, it's worth every penny. Think of it this way: you're buying longer, more comfortable sessions and a back that won't be barking at you at the end of the day. There might be a bit of a learning curve when winging with a harness, but after a few minutes practicing on the water, you'll have no issues.
