How to Install the Foil Drive Universal Mini Pod
The Foil Drive Universal Mini Pod is designed to be a tool-free, low-drag, and faster way to install your motor onto your foil mast. It features a streamlined design that minimizes resistance in the water while providing a secure connection for your drive system.
Design and Components
The Mini Pod is built around two main parts: a main outer shell and an internal mounting frame. The key feature of the universal system is the flexible strap mechanism. To accommodate various mast profiles and thicknesses, the straps come in three lengths — short, medium, and long — so that no matter what foil brand you're riding, you can achieve a tight, secure fit.
Assembling the Motor and Pod
Before mounting the system to your mast, you'll need to prepare the pod assembly. Start by sliding your Foil Drive motor into the internal mounting frame. Once the motor is properly seated, a single screw locks it into the frame. From there, the outer pod cover slides directly over the entire assembly. The design includes a specific exit point for the motor cable to keep the setup clean and hydrodynamic.
Mounting Walkthrough
The "tool-free" aspect of the Universal Mini Pod really shines during the actual installation on your foil. To mount the unit:
- Place the assembled pod against the mast at your desired height.
- Take the flexible strap and wrap it around the back of the mast.
- Insert the end of the strap into the integrated slots on the side of the pod.
- Click the strap into place, pulling it tight to ensure the motor is firmly clamped to the mast.
This system allows for quick adjustments on the beach without needing to reach for a hex key, making it easier than ever to get out on the water and fly.
The MACkite Take
The Universal Mini Pod's whole pitch is that you shouldn't have to think about it. Once it's set up, mounting and unmounting takes seconds and no tools, exactly what you want when you're on the beach trying to ride, not tinker.
- Pick the right strap length up front. Three sizes (short, medium, and long) cover the full range of mast profiles, so test fit before you head to the beach.
- Prep the pod assembly at home, not at the water. Motor into the mounting frame, single screw to lock, outer shell slides over the top — done. From there, every installation at the beach is strap-only.
- The four-step mount is genuinely tool-free. Pod against the mast, strap around the back, click into the side slots, pull tight. That's it: no hex key, no fumbling, no excuses to skip a session.
- Keep the cable exit clean. The pod has a specific exit point for the motor cable that keeps things hydrodynamic, so make sure the cable runs through it cleanly on every install rather than letting it kick out the side.
