General Cleaning and Maintenance - Waydoo Flyer ONE Plus

Post-Session Cleaning

To keep your eFoil running reliably and safely, it's important to properly clean and maintain your Flyer ONE right away after each session.

  1. Use the carbon fiber key attached to the remote strap to unlock the battery. Remove it from the battery compartment and set it aside.
  2. Using a fresh water hose with regular water pressure, not a spray nozzle, rinse down the board from top to bottom. Be as thorough as possible, making sure you run fresh water through all the screws and fasteners. Turn the battery locks and rinse each one for about 10 seconds. Don't forget the battery compartment and the mast head connector. Give it a good 30 second rinse to get rid of any salt buildup, but do not use high water pressure since that may force water into the mast head and damage the electrical components. Make sure you rinse the handles as well.
  3. Flip the board upside-down. Grab your allen wrench and start removing the wings, but don't force it. If you have trouble removing the screws, lubricate them with a little anti-seize before you continue. Put the removed wings aside.
  4. Rinse the fuselage and the motor. Aim the water stream at the screws and holes, the grille covering the Electronic Speed Control (ESC), and the hole next to the grille. You will see water coming out of the other side because water runs through this hole to provide cooling to the motor during operation, so it's more susceptible to salt and debris buildup. Give the propeller a rinse, and you're done with the power unit.
  5. Rinse the mast and the bottom of the board. They are made from corrosion-resistant materials, so you don't have to spend as much time on them.
  6. Disassemble the mast from the board. Loosen the fasteners a bit and then turn them simultaneously. Put the screws aside and rinse the screw holes and the mast head.
  7. Remove the mast, flip it over, and tilt it in all directions to drain any water left inside of the power unit. Set it down to dry.
  8. Lift the board and move it around to get rid of any excess water. Put the board down with the mast to dry.
  9. Get the battery and give it a quick rinse. Like you did for the connector on the mast, carefully rinse the battery connector for about half a minute. If your battery does not use a magnet to power on and off, press the buttons a few times to rinse the edges.
  10. After the rinse, dry the battery with a clean rag. Use Q-tips to dry the battery connector and terminals. After drying, clean the terminals with Q-tips saturated in rubbing alcohol. If you see black soot on the Q-tips, this indicates water was in the terminals during operation. Please check the o-ring around the connectors for leakage. A replacement o-ring is available in the tool kit. Set the battery down so the top mat can dry.
  11. Finally, you'll rinse the remote. Pull the trigger a few times while you're aiming at it.
  12. Leave everything out to dry, but make sure that you don't expose anything to direct sunlight for a long period of time as that would accelerate the deterioration process.

Battery Care and Storage During the Off-Season

  1. Regularly conduct visual inspections on the battery to check for exterior damage.
  2. If you're going to put your Flyer ONE away for an extended period of time, please charge or discharge the battery so the power level is at around 70 percent. Recharge the battery every two to three months to make sure it maintains a 40 to 70 percent power level.
  3. Put the battery into a fireproof bag or box specifically designed for the battery, available on our website or the official Waydoo site. Put the battery in a dry, cool, and ventilated place away from any flammable objects. If there is an issue with the battery, submerge the problematic battery in a container filled with 18 liters of water as soon as possible. This drains battery power and prevents fire.
