Fliteboard eFoil Lineup Review: Air, Scooter, Pro, Ultra

Eli from MACkite is joined by Ben from Fliteboard to walk through the current Fliteboard lineup and discuss how to choose the right board for your experience level and riding goals.

The Flitescooter

The Scooter is a very large, stable inflatable board at 240 liters. It features a handlebar that allows you to walk right off a dock and start riding. It is the easiest entry-level option and a great choice if you frequently have new guests coming to your house who want to try eFoiling.

The Flite AIR

The Flite AIR is also an inflatable board, but without the handlebar, and comes in two different sizes. There is the 110-liter size, otherwise known as the Icon, and the 80-liter PRO size. For most customers, the Icon 110-liter size is the recommended gateway into the eFoiling world.

If you prefer a hard board, the 100-liter ICON has three options: a soft top model, fiberglass, or carbon. The ICON is a balanced design with size, volume, and shape all optimized for easy takeoffs and cruising, while still having enough agility and performance to carve.

The PRO Board

While the standard boards start at the 100-liter Icon size, you can step down to the smaller, lighter PRO board, which is a 67-liter size. This is a great fit for someone who has previous watersports experience, such as a good skier, snowboarder, or someone who has already been on a foil. If you are athletic and want a board you can progress with from the beginning, the PRO board is an excellent choice.

The Premium ULTRA L3

The ULTRA L3 is the premium, high-performance board in the lineup. At 49 liters, it is the lightest board Fliteboard offers. This board is designed for riders who have watersports experience, have been on a hydrofoil or eFoil previously, and are looking to push the limits. It is built for hard carving, fast riding, and stealing waves in the ocean or behind a boat.

Which Board is Right for Me?

When considering rider weight, if you are around 215 pounds and brand new to the sport, the 5'8" ICON size is usually the best starting point to ensure a good experience right from the start. However, if you have some foiling experience, you could certainly learn on the PRO board, though it might take a session or two longer to master depending on your background.

Riding Unpowered

Riding unpowered can be done in a boat wake, in the ocean, or on a large lake with wind swell. While the ULTRA L3 is a favorite for this, you can ride unpowered on almost any setup. Success with unpowered riding depends heavily on your wing choice; larger wings provide more lift and make it easier to learn how to ride without motor power.

Propulsion Systems: Jet 2 vs. Prop

Fliteboard offers two different propulsion systems to suit your riding style:

Jet 2: This system is smooth, quiet, and safe because it features an enclosed impeller. It performs exceptionally well when riding under power.
Prop System: For riders focused on maximum performance and unpowered riding, the prop system is the right choice because you can use a folding prop for the most efficiency.

All eFoil systems using the prop will come with a prop guard for safety. Once you reach a certain skill level and feel confident on your board, you can remove the prop guard and install a Pro tail cover. This makes the board feel a bit more loose and enables higher efficiency while riding.

A Setup for Everyone

Which board and propulsion system you choose depends more on your ultimate goals than where you are now as a foiler. With the right size foil, you can learn on any board, and then swap out your wing as you progress.

If you are after a chill way for you and your family to cruise, stick with the larger board options. The added stability will mean you spend little to no time swimming and more time flying above the water.
