Cabrinha Moto vs. Duotone Evo | Do You Prefer Agility or Power?
One of the most common requests I get is to compare the Cabrinha Moto vs. the Duotone Evo. I was always hesitant to do this comparison because, while there are overlapping elements, these kites are aimed at different disciplines and different kitesurfers.
Like the Evo, the Moto is Cabrinha's all-around, 3-strut freeride kite. Where it differs is that it was designed for the waves and hydrofoiling. This means the Moto is going to have some wave characteristics. For example, the Moto has less low-end power. This is to prevent riders from being pulled off waves.
In my experience, for freeride, the Cabrinha Moto likes to be powered but not overly powered. It is fast, agile, and fun, especially for old school tricks like dark slides, hand drags, and other moves that incorporate late kite loops. The kite loops are predictable but have a rush to them in stronger wind.
On the foil, the speed and lack of grunt makes the Moto a good choice. Although I do prefer the Cabrinha Drifter myself.
The Evo is the Moto's freeride big air counterpart. For freeride, you get many of the same benefits—predictable loops, speed, and a playful kite. The Duotone Evo has more loft and more range. The grunt on the low end, and the kite's ability to handle more power make it a good choice for the freerider who wants more airtime.
On the foil, the grunt is a negative in my opinion, albeit, sizing down does wonders! Depending on your skill, this works for the waves. Like Cabrinha's Drifter, I prefer the Duotone Neo in waves.
I've noticed that experienced technical freeriders who do a lot of loop-based tricks and ride in locations with waves opt for the Moto. This sums up my home beach in Michigan. In areas with flat water, I see more big air freeriders using the Evo.
When deciding between these two kites, these are the most notable factors in my experience: location, skill and the discipline you're aiming for.
Hopefully this review will help you choose!
