2024 Slingshot Ghost V3 with Fred Hope

Pat is at King of the Great Lakes with Fred Hope from Slingshot. They're checking out the new 2024 Ghost V3.

Fred: The Ghost is our one-strut kite for the new year. You tried it today, right?

Pat: Yeah, I got out and had a nice foil session on it today. It's a pretty grunty kite, actually, with good sheet-and-go power. It's really quite fast-turning, and the relaunch on the thing was amazing. I was in really crappy, gusty offshore wind, and the kite just wouldn't stay on the water. Every time it went down, it was a super easy relaunch. It wants to go back up.

Fred: We spent a lot of time working on this kite. We probably did six different quivers with the whole size run to try to dial it in. The first one was a little too high-aspect, then it was too low-aspect, then it kind of lost its grunt, and we really wanted to have that sheet-and-go in the kite because this is our all-around kite for anyone from the beginner, all the way up to the rider that wants to have one kite for their quiver, no matter the sport that they do. So we needed it to just sheet in and pull you up.

Pat: It's quite a bit higher aspect than last year's model, it seems.

Fred: The V1 had a ton of grunt and the V2 kind of lost its grunt but got faster. This one sits right in between. It has enough sheet-and-go to get you going, but it doesn't slow the kite down too much or sit too deep in the window.

Pat: And the new graphics for 2024... you guys really spruced things up.

Fred: Yeah, they're pretty cool. What's nice about this kite in particular is that, when you do end up getting overpowered, it drives to the edge of the window instead of sitting so deep. So in the lighter winds it sits deeper and gives you that sheet-and-go, and then as soon as you get overpowered, you push the bar all the way out and it easily goes up to the edge and calms down.

Pat: It's great, and I think for anybody looking for their entry-level foil kite, or even freeride twintipping and waves, it'd be an awesome option for them.

Fred: It's a really fun kite and I can't wait to get my own quiver and start messing around with them. I'm pretty excited.
