2021 North Kites Overview
2021 North Kites Overview
This is a good look at the 2021 North kites compared to the 2020 North kites. We'll be taking a look at what the changes are and how it will impact you as a rider in this blog.
The Orbit
The ORBIT changed the game when it came to big air kiteboarding. It's one of the most successful kites at KOTA. With swept wingtips and a flatter canopy you get a very unique kite. It has the turning possibilities of a freestyle kite, but the flat canopy allows you to soar!
These two characteristics make for a very special big air kite; it's target audience is riders who want to boost. The original Orbit was great in overpowered situations, but struggled on the low-end of the wind range. In contrast, the 2021 North Orbit is much more balanced and user friendly.
North designer Pat Goodman did not sacrifice any big-air performance in making these changes. The 2021 kite is also lighter than the 2020.
The Carve
The CARVE is awesome for surfing and foiling! For 2021, North was able to increase the wind range on both ends of the spectrum and make it even lighter making this a super fast kite.
The Reach
The REACH was designed to perform well in surfing, big-air, foiling, freeride, and more situations. Essentially, this is a great all-around kite that can get you doing everything kiteboarding has to offer minus racing.
With a three strut design, the kite still has some structure, but is light enough to stay in the sky in the lightest of conditions. The 2021 Reach is lighter, has a better wind range, and even has more finely-tuned bridles with improved responsiveness. This kite does everything well and would be fantastic for new riders.
The Navigator Control Bar
The NAVIGATOR CONTROL BAR has a more refined look and a new color combination for 2021; this bar is one of our favorites in the industry.
In Conclusion
We have to give a shoutout to North's head kite designer Pat Goodman. He has been in the industry for years and his lineup of North kites is truly incredible! Not to mention these kites are really only the second generation.
15 years ago, every year we saw ridiculous improvements in kites, but nowadays, kites are only refined. However, we think North has seriously changed the game with the Reach and made great improvements to the 2021 kite lineup.
