ART 999 Front Wing

The AXIS Research Team ART 999 looks and feels like nothing else.

On the water this wing blows your mind! The ART999 sits at the forefront of wing design and development, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible for a foil. The incredible speed and glide of this wing, coupled with effortless pump and efficiency, enables you to ride the smallest lump way further outside the surf zone than ever before. What separates this wing from the pack is how well it turns, rolling effortlessly between turns comparable to a surf wing. Despite these high-performance features of the AXIS ART999, it is a surprisingly user friendly wing. The stall speed is incomparably low, giving even advanced beginner to intermediate riders an accessible platform for learning to pump and rapid progression.

The team here at AXIS are extremely excited to see how this very responsive, nimble yet confidently precise and planted wing takes the down-winding, winging, wind foiling and smaller surf markets by storm.

Thoroughly tested and approved after several rounds of refinement, these reduced chord, high aspect wings are the most advanced, hydrodynamically efficient foil design on the market today. When combined with an AXIS Carbon mast and your favorite AXIS rear wing, they provide the ultimate friction free ride.

Progressive 350 Rear Wing

The AXIS Progressive Rear Wings are our very latest thinking in rear wing design, suitable for more advanced riders and perfectly paired with our HPS, ART or smaller BSC and PNG wings. Mostly flat but with a very subtle downturn, these wings combine excellent speed with sensational turning.

Who are the AXIS Progressive rear wings for?
The AXIS Progressive rear wings are all round wings for intermediate and advanced riders paired with higher performance front wings such as HPS, ART, PNG and BSC front wings.

You notice the difference in your first carve or gybe.

Why did we design the AXIS Progressive rear wings?
We got super hooked on the locked in, fast, stable feel of the AXIS Speed 380/60 and 420/60 rear wings, and still are for flat water blasting and racing for winging and big, fast waves for foil surfing. But we had a feeling we still had more to give our riders in the turning department. After several iterations and tweaks, the new Progressive 350/63, 375/64, 400/65, 425/66, 450/67 and 475/68 rears have delivered it in spades.

Medium aspect, with a thin foil section and subtle turned down tips, this new design rolls into the turn beautifully, feels fluid and loose, and also grips through the carve and transitions back out the other side with predictable control and positive acceleration. Even intermediate foilers will notice the difference straight away. It’s super well behaved in rough winging conditions (just set and forget) and with the thin foil section it’s still rewardingly quick. The Progressive rear wings will feel like a natural extension of your feet.

Riders are finding the Progressive rears pair beautifully with our AXIS ART and AXIS HPS high aspect front wings, and they’ll work very well with any foil for riders looking to improve their turns and carves. As always, size your Progressive rear wing to your experience and front wing size. (larger sizes for less experienced riders and larger front wing pairings)

We obsess over rear wings, almost to the point that it’s a problem. We’ve tried to get professional help but the prototypes just keep getting churned out by our design team on a weekly basis, and we can’t help but test, analyze, pontificate, redesign – and on and on it goes.

You may be thinking – why do rear wings matter? Aren’t they just stabilizers to balance the front wing? Well that’s what many thought too – in the very early days. We know that your rear wing can change your life. Okay that’s not quite true, but it will significantly affect the ride characteristics of your whole foil set up.

Black Crazyshort Advance Fuselage

If you're into pushing the envelope in wave riding (Prone, SUP, Wing or Wake) these will blow your mind. Are you looking to push harder, carve tighter turns and want an even more connected surf experience? Our new Black ADVANCE fuselage configuration is for you. This design sees the mast position advanced 40mm closer to the front foil, opening up entirely new options for surf performance. Our Current Black fuselage range is perfectly suited to the majority of riders across all disciplines, while these new Black ADVANCE fuselages are not intended to replace them but provide options for performance and a more connected feel when pushing the limits. If you are an intermediate or expert surf / wave foiler, this could be a great upgrade for you.

A consideration when moving the mast position on the fuselage forward is that the effective length of the rear fuselage back to the rear stabilizing foil is increased by the distance the mast moves forward. For this reason we are introducing a new fuselage size the ‘Sillyshort’. When choosing your Advance Black Fuselage, it’s advisable to take this into consideration and perhaps opt for a length shorter than you are used to using. If you’re currently using an Ultrashort, you might consider the Crazyshort instead. Available in Ultrashort, Crazyshort and an all new Sillyshort (just 560mm). Compatible with ART and HPS wings, but also suitable for the smaller sizes in our PNG and BSC wings. Compared to our current Black fuselage range, these 3 new little siblings provide a looser, faster transition from side-to-side. The sensation our testers liked it for is similar to the sensation of moving fins forward in the tracks on a surfboard, initiating turns becomes easier, which is great in the surf. There is a small trade-off, this ease of turning comes as at the expense of some tracking and speed stability. (So expect to have a small effect on upwind ability when winging and a need to adjust pumping technique slightly. If you are into ultra high speed big wave riding, you should consider the regular black fuselages instead).

With the mast set 40mm further forward on the fuselage, your baseplate position needs to be 40mm further forward in the boxes to position the wings in the same position as the normal Black fuselage.(40mm, 1.57")

19mm Alloy Foil Mast

Designed for the AXIS S-Series and K-Series Foils, the AXIS masts are stiff, strong, and ready for any use and conditions. AXIS designed their masts for 2020 to give their foilers a very direct feeling to their foil, which is critical for foiling. They even sourced their own high-quality aluminum and bought tons of it, to ensure they only have the highest quality raw materials for their foils. Their K/S Series masts are 224% stiffer than the 15mm thick masts (most other foils on the market). It's even stiffer and any other carbon mast on the market today. This gives you more control and fast input from your feet to the front wing.

45cm The 45cm foil mast is ideal for your first flights, while you are learning how to start to foil. Most riders spend only a few hours or less on the shortest foil mast AXIS makes (45cm) before they graduate to the longer foil masts.

60cm The 60cm mast is the most common mast that you will start putting hours on. You will ride it for a while before you move up to a taller mast, when you SUP, Surf, Downwind, Wake or Kite. Some riders might never need a taller mast, depending on their style, local conditions or discipline of riding.

68cm The 68cm is the most common foil mast length for prone surf foiling and all round SUP. If there is one size mast for SUP, prone surf, or wake foiling, the 68cm mast will be your choice.

75cm The 75cm mast is mostly used on bigger surf, downwinders and more advanced riding with the S-Series foil, or as a surfy option for the K-Series foil (Kite Foiling).

90cm The 90cm mast is the choice of big wave enthusiasts and tow-ins, when combined with the S-Series 680 front wing. It's also the choice of downwinder pros when competing in open ocean swell. The AXIS 90cm mast is the main size mast for wind foilers and kite foilers (K-Series), when they are not beginners any longer.

105cm The 105cm mast is mostly used for big swell downwinders with the S-Series foil, or for more aggressive riding and speed with the K-Series foil (Kite Foiling).

Power Carbon Foil Mast & Base Plate

The AXIS ART high aspect foil range was the single biggest foiling advancement to date. It delivered more speed, more glide and razor-sharp turning with industry-leading ease of ride.

But 2022 is the year of the mast. The AXIS Power Carbon mast.

Whether winging at speed, laying deep carves on a wave face or pumping and linking up swells on a downwinder – AXIS Power Carbon enters a new realm of control and connection between board and foil.

It’s the next giant leap in foiling performance. And once again it’s brought to you by AXIS.

High aspect foils = higher loads on masts

During early ART foil testing, our research team quickly realized that higher aspect ratios and broader foil spans applied more bending and twisting forces to the mast. So while ART foils were a game-changer even on our existing masts, we knew there was still huge untapped potential to be realized.

And so began a whole new development project, and we couldn’t be more excited at the result. With a new power profile and carefully considered material selection and placement, AXIS Power Carbon delivers both superior stiffness with next-level strength.

More Details

Opting for a one-piece design, we avoided the flow/drag and jointing issues associated with multi-part mast constructions.

Additionally and more importantly, testing proves that maximum loading is concentrated close to the baseplate and this is why the mast tapers thicker at this point to handle the loads. Any joins or two-piece construction at this high load area would destroy the integrity of the mast.

A revised fuselage connection design maximizes the size of the attachment point to achieve a perfect fit to the fuselage reducing any chance of unwanted movement.

The result is a positive connected feel, direct drive, immediate feedback and ultimate control. High aspect foils perform as they should, feel and control enter an entirely new realm.

The new High Modulus Carbon fibre used in our mast layup is considerably stiffer and stronger than the regular carbon fibre used in conventional constructions. Innovative, considered and balanced placement of materials in our proprietary production process paired with rigorous testing has delivered a breathtaking performance leap.

Ride characteristics are so game-changing, that it’s been a struggle to get our team riders to return the prototypes after testing!

Feedback featured claims like ‘a way more positive and connected feel’, ‘immediate feedback’ and ‘ultimate control’.

Choose your Power level

Our new masts are available in two models, the Power Carbon and Power Carbon - High Modulus, the latter providing additional strength and 35% more bend resistance than our industry-leading 19mm aluminium mast. The High Modulus will be the mast of choice for the most discerning rider seeking ultimate performance, and heavier riders using our larger span foils.

AXIS Power Carbon Mast Comparison

With AXIS Power Carbon masts, riders will finally be at one with the foil.

AXIS Power Carbon Masts have a new and greatly improved base connection design. While fully compatible with all existing Red & Black fuselage, a new installation technique/method is required, this involves simply inserting the mast leading edge first into the fuselage opening, then rotating the trailing edge down. Removal is done in reverse, trailing edge rotates out first... super simple!

Remember use only 30mm M8 bolts to attach fuselage to Power Carbon masts
