We analyzing years of data from aerospace and elite sail racing to set the foundation for the V2’s experimentally optimized blend of ultra high modulus Toray pre-preg carbon fiber, new internal shear web architecture, and a novel process for higher compaction during molding.

Optimized for Wave Dynamics

From a hydrodynamics perspective, two key attributes are pushed to the absolute limit: ventilation resistance and "drag bucket" - the operating window where drag is at its minimum.

Going straight is easy. Wave riding is dynamic.

Rather than simply optimizing for straight line performance, the V2 is designed for minimum drag through the full operating range of the system’s real world angles experienced during wave riding. Paired with the superb ventilation resistance keeping flow perfectly attached, makes for a smooth, predictable, and refined experience on the water.

Notes on Mast Length From Greg

High Performance Wing

The 85cm length is designed for winging, those pushing bigger conditions with the parawing (or simply wanting more forgiveness hauling ass upwind), and tow foiling. I’ve found 85cm to be the sweet spot for aggressive/powered wave riding since it provides the best combination of clearance for hard, dynamic turns while still being short enough to have a great rail to rail response. 

It also strikes an excellent balance in being long enough to confidently charge bigger conditions (whether on a big wave with surface chop or blasting upwind on a stormy day) while still retaining very high efficiency for downwind riding and pumping.

Parawinging

The 80cm is my choice and general recommendation for parawinging, prone foiling, and wingers who are predominately riding in lighter, smaller conditions. Since foilers tend to maintain the same distance of their board above the surface regardless of mast length, in practice a shorter mast improves wave performance by reducing drag in three distinct ways:

• Simply, less amount of mast is dragging through the water;
• The foil is operating closer to the surface which decreases induced drag (especially dominant at low - medium speeds)
• The foil can gain more push from the wave since the available energy decays rapidly with increasing depth (even moreso with shorter period windswell!)

Prone Foiling

While there can be benefits to going shorter on the very smallest small days, in practice I feel it’s better most to invest in a higher performance “all round” length like the 80cm than drop down to a two mast quiver to include a 75cm. For prone foiling I’ve been running the 80cm and recommending most others consider the same. While I used to like the 75cm to enable shallower take-offs on small days with my 40L Flux, this benefit has been offset having switched to the 66L Emissary as the higher floatation provides more clearance for mast length. 

I think most prone foilers will have more fun with a one mast, two board quiver like this rather than two masts. Once up on foil (whether on midlength or low volume prone board) I’ve found I consistently prefer the extra clearance offered by the 80cm and the consistency in going back and forth between parawinging, winging, and prone foiling.

Learning Progression & Mast Length

For those that are “advancing to intermediate” wingers or parawingers and unsure of which mast size to choose, know that you really can’t go wrong with either; but both give a subtle advantage to a different aspect of your progression. Namely, the 85cm is more forgiving riding upwind, while the 80cm is a bit more efficient downwinding. 

For progressing wingers I suggest the 85cm as riding hard upwind is such a key part of increasing the fun:struggle ratio on the water, and as you progress you will come to appreciate the extra length when learning to lean harder into carves. For parawinging I’d reverse this, as most folks at the early stages primarily need the most help staying on foil while downwinding and will benefit more from the drag reduction of the slightly shorter mast. Falling once in a while while ripping upwind is well worth the price of admission to sending clean runs downwind with a stowed parawing!
