How to Fix a Sticky Waydoo EVO Remote Trigger
If your Waydoo EVO remote trigger starts sticking or losing responsiveness, it’s usually not a major failure. In most cases, it’s just sand or debris working its way into the mechanism. We’ve seen this plenty of times after beach launches or setting the remote down in the wrong spot.
The good news is you can fix it yourself in about 10 to 15 minutes with minimal tools. In this video, we break down how to fix a sticky or worn Waydoo remote trigger in just a few simple steps.
What You’ll Need
- 2.5 mm Allen key
- Replacement trigger (optional)
- Soft brush or compressed air (optional)
- Clean water and lint-free cloth
Before You Start
- Power the remote off
- Work on a clean, flat surface
- Factory screws have threadlocker already applied, so there’s no need to reapply it
From experience, keeping your workspace clean matters more than you think. These screws are small, and sand loves to get everywhere.
Step 1: Remove the Handle and Screws
The trigger assembly is held in with three screws. Two are visible right away, and the third is hidden under the rubber grip.
Pull the grip down firmly. It takes a bit of force to get it past the seal and magnet, but it will pop free. Once exposed, remove all three screws with your 2.5 mm Allen key.

Step 2: Access the Trigger Assembly
With the screws out, you’ll see a plastic bracket holding everything in place.
Gently pry it up using a small tool or fingernail. Once it lifts, it will pop free.
At this point, you’ll likely see the real issue: sand, grit, or debris packed into the trigger mechanism. This is the most common cause of a sticky trigger.
Step 3: Clean or Replace the Trigger
Most of the time, you don’t need a new trigger.
- Move the trigger back and forth to loosen debris
- Tap the remote gently to shake sand out
- Use compressed air or rinse lightly with water
- Dry everything thoroughly before reassembly
We’ve had remotes come back to life just from this step alone.
If the trigger is damaged or the spring isn’t returning, pull the trigger back to expose the internal screw, remove it with your Allen key, slide the trigger out, install the new one, make sure the spring is seated correctly, and tighten it snug without overdoing it.

Step 4: Reassemble Everything
Reassembly is just the reverse of disassembly.
- Press the plastic bracket back in until it clicks
- Reinstall all three screws snugly
- Slide the rubber grip back over the handle until it seats over the seal
Don’t over-tighten here. Too much pressure can affect trigger movement.
Final Check
Before heading back to the water, press the trigger a few times, make sure it moves freely and returns smoothly, then power on and confirm throttle response.
If it feels clean and consistent, you’re good to go.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Still sticking? There’s probably more sand inside. Repeat the cleaning process.
- Not springing back? Check that the spring is properly seated.
- Feels tight or stiff? Slightly loosen the screws and test again.
Preventing It Next Time
This issue almost always comes from sand intrusion.
- Rinse your remote after beach sessions
- Avoid setting it directly in sand
- Store it clean and dry
The MACkite Take
We’ve seen this come up most often during Great Lakes beach days where fine sand gets everywhere. The fix is simple, but staying ahead of it saves you from mid-session frustration when your throttle doesn’t respond the way it should.
If you keep your remote clean and know how to service it, you’ll spend a lot more time riding and a lot less time troubleshooting on shore.
