Skip Reviews the Mystic Stage Wing Waist Harness
Skip recently spent a few days riding the Mystic Stage Wing Harness, and he came back with plenty of insight on how it stacks up against other harnesses from Mystic's line, especially the Carbon X and Wingman. If you're weighing your options in Mystic's lineup, his detailed ride notes and comparisons should help you figure out if the Stage is the right fit.
Skip's First Impressions of the Stage
Key Features
Immediately, Skip noticed that the Stage is thinner compared to similar models. Its designed for those who want support without the bulk of a wide backplate. Like the Carbon X, it uses a nylon sliding hook instead of metal. This makes it much kinder to your board if you happen to knock into your board. The hook also pivots left to right, helping your hips stay in place when you're transitioning.
Another key feature is the double Velcro closure system. Mystic updated this from the old Wingman's single-strap setup, which had the unfortunate tendency to loosen up or fly out. Instead, the closure doubles over itself. The Stage's double overlap is secure, simple, and eliminates those pesky hassles.

Comfort & Back Support
Compared to the Wingman, the Stage has upgraded EVA foam molding with more back support. It doesn't hold water, so the harness stays light. Despite its slim profile, Skip felt great back support when leaning into harness lines. While the Carbon X provides more substantial lumbar coverage, the Stage still gives meaningful support in a more compact design. In fact, it might be a great first step into using a harness for winging, so you don't have the initial investment and bulk.

Rigging & Attachment Points
On the back, the Stage includes two leash attachment points. You can lark’s head your wing or board leash directly, or modify with a small loop and O-ring if you want the freedom to swap sides. Skip appreciated that flexibility and noted it felt cleaner than the Wingman’s old nylon loop system.
After a few sessions, it seemed Skip was impressed with how well the Mystic Stage balanced comfort, weight, and functionality. It's a great step-up harness if you're new to harness use or are hesitant to committing to a full-sized backplate harness. For riders who want to extend sessions without sacrificing bulk, the Stage is a worthy option.
And of course, if you have questions about sizing, setup, or how the Stage compares to other wing harnesses, give us a shout!
