Jeff's Ozone LiteForce V2 Light Wind Test Ride
Jeff took the new 6.6m Ozone LiteForce V2 out for a spin to see how it handles in marginal conditions. A big thanks to Ozone for sending this wing over to the team to try out. For this session, the wind was blowing up and down, right around 12 to 14 knots. The original Ozone LiteForce has always been one of Jeff's favorite light wind wings, so he was stoked to give the V2 a try.
The Gear Setup
To test the light wind capabilities of the 6.6m LiteForce V2, Jeff paired it with the following gear:
- Foil: Code 850
- Board: 68-liter KT Arc
Out of the box, the wing comes equipped with a waist leash and a boom. Jeff also threw some harness lines on there to get dialed in for the session.
First Impressions on the Water
After navigating a shallow section and wading out past the sandbars, Jeff got the wing up in the air. It pumped right up with no issues. One thing he's always liked about the first version of the LiteForce is that it feels light for a big wing, and the V2 continues that trend. It doesn't feel big, yet it still has the grunt you need to get going. You don't seem to feel as much drag once you're up and riding, which is always nice.
The wing feels incredibly light in the hands. When lifting it over your head, it feels good and doesn't feel heavy at all. It just flaps out next to you until you need to back upwind and engage that grunt.
Tacking and Maneuvers
When going into a tack and putting the wing up over his head, Jeff noted he got choked by it just a little bit, but it was alright. He also went for a heelside tack. Usually, with a waist harness, that pull in the back gets caught, but he managed to bring it down. Even as he bled downwind speed, the lift on the wing remained impressive — he was even able to ride toeside with barely any wind, which is a lot harder to pull off in lighter conditions.
Handling the Lulls and Gusts
The LiteForce V2 proved to be a really solid wing. It has the right amount of power and lift to get you through the lulls, all while feeling very light, lifty, and airy in the hands. During the session, Jeff estimated that the lulls were dropping to around 11 knots, with the gusts pushing closer to 13 or 14 knots.
The MACkite Take
The Ozone LiteForce V2 continues what the V1 did best: making a big light wind wing feel small in the hands and light on the water. Jeff's marginal 12 to 14-knot test session made a strong case that the V2 belongs in any serious light wind quiver.
- It rides like a smaller wing than it is. The 6.6m didn't feel big pumping up, didn't feel heavy overhead, and didn't feel draggy once Jeff was up and riding — all key criteria for a light wind wing that most designs still get wrong.
- It gets you through the lulls. Session lulls were dropping to 11 knots with gusts around 13 to 14, and the wing had enough grunt to keep Jeff moving through the soft spots without losing lift.
- Tacks and toeside were both possible. Jeff pulled off a heelside tack in conditions where a waist harness usually gets caught up, and even rode toeside in barely-there wind — maneuvers that only work when the wing keeps lifting when the wind stops helping.
- Test gear pairing worth noting: Code 850 foil under a 68-liter KT Arc, with the included waist leash and boom, plus harness lines added. That's a modern, efficient setup that gets the most out of the wing's low-end range.
- Full technical review coming soon. This is Jeff's on-water first impression — Tucker and Ryan will be following up with a full breakdown of specs and construction details in the shop.
