Post-Ride Care Tips for Your AMPJet
How to Make Your FLITELab Gear Last Longer
After a great session on your AMPJet efoil, a few quick maintenance steps can help your equipment last longer. Whether you're wrapping up a session or prepping for the next ride, here’s how to properly care for your AMPJet foil assist system.
The AMPJet system is rugged, smartly engineered, and built for serious water use. Even so, it still benefits from regular care. By drying your parts, checking connectors, and rinsing saltwater from important areas, you protect your investment. This helps ensure the best performance on every ride.
Power Down and Remove the LAUNCHPad Safely
The first thing you’ll want to do after your session is turn off the LAUNCHPad. Once it’s fully powered down, remove it from the board to avoid any chance of accidental activation. Remember, this is your control center! Treat it with care, and it’ll serve you reliably for every ride.
Use the Long Locking Bolt to Remove the Cartridge
Next, remove the cartridge using the long jacking bolt. FLITELab intentionally extend this bolt to help prevent jams. While jamming is rare, it's one worth preparing for.
As you turn the bolt, you’ll feel the cartridge begin to lift. Once you hear a click, give it an extra half-turn, then pull the cartridge out using both hands.
Pro Tip: Let the cartridge sit for a minute to allow any residual water to drain before handling it further.

Dry Before You Disassemble
Before removing your AMPCells (the batteries), it’s critical to dry the cartridge, especially around the end cap. Although the batteries are waterproof, their connectors will last significantly longer if kept dry.
- Use a towel to dry off all visible moisture.
- Avoid flipping the cartridge upside down when removing the cap. This prevents water from dripping back into the unit.
- Hold it at a slight downward angle and slowly wiggle the end cap off.
Once removed, inspect the inside of the cartridge and batteries. Everything should be bone dry. If you see any water inside, wipe it out before removing the batteries.

Check the Battery Connectors
As you remove the batteries, inspect all contact pins, especially the front-facing ones, for moisture or corrosion. Gently twist the battery connections apart and visually check that everything looks as clean as when you assembled it.
If anything feels sticky or shows signs of salt buildup, give the area a gentle wipe and let it fully dry before storing.

Inspect & Rinse the Cartridge
Before you put anything away, take a moment to inspect the cartridge cavity. It should be free of water, sand, or debris.
If there’s saltwater inside:
- Pour half a cup of fresh water through it,
- Swish with a cloth or soft rag,
- Let it fully dry out before reuse.
This step is especially important to prevent corrosion or performance issues over time.
Keep it Dry and Organized
Use the designated AMPJet case to store your components. Place the LAUNCHPad, batteries, and charger in their respective slots. If you have multiple batteries, consider upgrading to the optional 4-cell battery case for more secure transport.

Storage Tip: Don’t store components wet. Dry everything thoroughly first, then pack it away. Once home, remove the batteries again to double-check for moisture and store them in a cool, dry place.
Final Step: Rinse the Jet Cavity
While the AMPJet is built with corrosion-resistant materials like carbon and plastic, the internal impeller contains anodized alloy parts. It’s highly durable, but it’s still best to rinse off saltwater after each session.
Here are two easy methods:
- Quick rinse: Hose it down with fresh water
- Thorough rinse: Dip the jet end in a small bucket and swish it around. Repeat 2–3 times
Once rinsed, let it fully air dry outside the case before long-term storage.
