2025 F-One Frigate Parawing | Ultra-Light, Single-Skin, Built for Downwind
It's no secret that Tucker is a fan of F-One gear. It's a brand that consistently delivers, and Tucker's excitement shows through whenever he gets his hands on something new. He's already had a chance to try F-One's Plume K-Wing, a unique wing that looks like a small kiteboarding kite, and now a demo of F-One's single-skin parawing, the Frigate, has just arrived. He's eager to put it through its paces, but since there isn't any wind today, he'll settle for taking a quick look at its features and what sets it apart from other parawings.
What Are Some Features of the F-One Frigate?
Bar
The first thing you'll notice about the Frigate's bar is that there's a harness loop on it. Yep, that comes included, a unique offering among parawings. It's fairly short, but it should be usable, and it can be taken off if you don't want to use it or you want to use a different one. If you do much upwind riding, a harness can do a lot to extend your session by reducing fatigue.
The bar is lightweight and is color-coded, with the orange being forward. The ends are rounded so as not to snag the bridles, and the bridles themselves attach with pigtails and are easy to remove to replace lines or to put on a different harness loop.
Bridles
The bridles are also color-coded. Like the bar, the orange is for the front bridle, then the center ones are yellow and the rear ones are red.
Unlike other parawings, the front A-line bridles don't just go to the leading edge. They also connect at various points along the center of the wing. It'll be interesting to see how that affects the feel of the wing in flight, but it is definitely going to make it easier to collapse the wing to pack it in on the water. The bridle is also fairly short and doesn't even require Tucker's full arm span to reach to the wing, which is nice not only for pulling the wing in, but also to throw the wing out or even remove a bit of power while flying. If you have shorter arms, this is definitely a wing to look at.
Wing
Where the front bridles connect to the wing, there is a sort of baffle that seems to help the air flow over the keel. No other parawing has this, so it'll be interesting to see how it affects its flight.
The leading edge has some soft battens to help hold its shape and create an efficient curvature. Other wings do that, but the Frigate also has them toward the trailing edge. That should help it keep its shape at that end and reduce shuddering and crinkling under pressure so it flies more cleanly through the air.
What Does Tucker Think So Far?
All the details on this wing look really tight and nice. The connections and sewing are high quality and appear to be well-thought-out. The front end of the wing has a lot more detail and support, whereas the trailing edge is more lightweight, simple and packable. You can tell F-One has done their research and come forward with some fresh ideas on what could make a parawing better. Nothing looks gimmicky, and some of these ideas could stick. It's simple, effective, and high performance. He can't wait to get enough wind to get a good feel for how everything comes together on the Frigate.
Who Is the Frigate For?
The Frigate is a good choice for anyone who wants to pack their wing into a fanny pack and ride hands-free. The Plume K-Wing is easy to fly and has a better wind range than a parawing, but since it has an inflated leading edge, you can't pack it down. The Frigate will be an option that experienced downwind foilers will want to look at.
