Winging FAQs
There's a number of reasons why winging and wing foiling is the hot topic. Unlike specialized sports, winging can be practiced in a wide range of conditions. It's also a versatile option that fits many riders thanks to its short learning curve and adaptability. You want to foil? Go ahead. How about just cruise on a SUP? That works too.
Generally speaking, here's what you'll need to get started wing foiling:
- Wing & Wing Leash: This one's pretty obvious. Still, it's important to note that not all brands have leashes included with their wings. Make sure you check the product details or ask our staff!
- Pump & Adapter: Double check that your adapter works on your pump hose and wing. Like leashes, some brands include adaptors while others don't. If you don't have a universal pump with multiple adaptors, it's best to double check your fit before you head to the beach.
- Board & Board Leash: A leash is a pretty cruicial component to this setup. A calf or waist leash works best, but an ankle leash can be a handy substitute if you're in a pinch.
- Foil & Hardware: Make sure your board-to-foil connection hardware is compatible before you head to your riding spot.

We recommend starting with a medium-sized wing (think around 5 or 5.5m for an 180 lbs. rider). You'll have better power for maximum learning potential. From there, we'd recommend moving onto buying a wing for lighter winds (like a 7m or 8m) after you've developed some skills. Finally, go ahead and buy that high-wind wing — depending on your weight, this could be 4m or smaller. While this is our general recommendation, we also understand that conditions play into capabilities. If you're in a place where it's flat water and high winds, you might jump from a medium-sized wing to a smaller one. Or, on the flip side, if you ride in lighter conditions, you will likely want to start with as big of a wing as possible.
