Description

For high-speed performance, efficiency is key. The Mode, our new high-speed performance wing, incorporates N-Weave woven fibre technology, 3x stiffer and 40% lighter than traditional leading-edge materials, for the most efficient power delivery on the market. N-Weave reduces structural deflection and transfers wind energy into greater forward speed, explosive boost and hangtime for freestyle tricks. Development of this new material technology has allowed us to create a stiffer, lighter and more durable wing without geometric compromise (and without the high-performance price tag). The Mode has a fast, VMG-optimized design, which lets you sail closer to the wind, on higher upwind angles, and reduces your need to tack or gybe, so you reach the mark as quickly as possible. We designed the Mode primarily for high-speed performance, but the stiffer airframe also translates into unprecedented loft for higher jumps and forward momentum on landings. With incredible high-end stability, the 4.2 and 5.5m are ideal for use in stronger winds, while the 7m is optimised for greater power in lighter air. The wing has a balanced lower aspect ratio with rounded wingtips to reduce tip strike, and the new panel layout delivers wingtip stability and increased tension under load. Featuring rigid GripLock micro-trim control handles for immediate response, and new race-window positioning to help you keep a close eye on your opponents.

About N-Weave Technology:

Maximum Strength. Minimum Weight.

3x stiffer, 40% lighter.

Almost half the weight of traditional dacron, the N-Weave makes the overall weight of the wing about 25% lighter. This weight savings translates into greater performance, more efficient power delivery in light air, and makes the wing easier to handle in all conditions. N-Weave also has very high cut and abrasion resistance. The UPE fibres that make up N-Weave are known for their resistance to water, moisture, most chemicals, UV and microorganisms. UPE is also known for its durability and toughness.

    North Mode Review

Posted by David on 4th Jun 2023

Really happy with the Mode's. I have used the Ozone Wasps, Duotone 2022 units and 2023 Units. North the best all around although the Units are better tackers and marginally better upwind, Units are def worse downwind and flagging in surf.

    7 meter North Mode

Posted by Andy Keeler on 2nd Jun 2023

This is a very positive review with a caution – the 7m Mode is not a great very-lightwind wing. This wing has two outstanding virtues – range and upwind. In winds that are highly variable in the 10-20 range (with even higher gusts) it is marvelous – fast, light in the hands, very very stable. Stays on foil and generates apparent wind in big lulls. Upwind angles are really great, even when moderately powered. It is a luxury to have this wing when winds are in the mid-teens and are either building or dropping. I am really happy to have this wing in my quiver. But it is a luxury in that it does not replace my old 7m CWC for real low end. For me, it seems to need a certain amount of wind to be able to get an efficient pump, and getting it on foil in chop when the wind is below (I’m estimating) 10-12 mph is not easy. Since I really like light-wind winging, I now also have an ultra-lightwind wing, and probably could get by with that wing and a 5 – but I am really happy to have the 7 mode on days like yesterday – 15mph average with lulls to about 10 and gusts to low 20s – it made winging delightful and fast where other wings would have been over- or under-powered much of the time. Construction seems really good, and even with the fancy n-weave leading edge and strut it only requires 7psi. Folding is different than other winds I’ve had, but not bad when you get used to it. This is my first hard-handle wing, and the handles are fine but still hard for me to get used to. Overall, a really fun wing that does what it is designed to do.

    Unreal

Posted by Billy on 28th Nov 2022

I have flown many wings. The mode is the only wing that is close to perfect. Of course you have to enjoy hard handles. We have terrible quality quality wind and big waves. 10 mph gusting 30. The 5.5m with a small HA foil 90 inch^2 (600 cm^2) works well. Bigger foils too. I'm an average rider. Should work well for anyone. I can't find anything negative to say. This review was created after six sessions.
