Rebel vs. Envy

North Rebel and Liquid Force Envy

Question: I am looking to get either a North Rebel 12 meter or a Liquid Force Envy 12 meter kiteboarding kite. I have just finished my lessons and want a kite I can stay with for the next couple of years of kitesurfing. I have read all the reviews and to me it's a toss-up.

What are your thoughts between the North Rebel and Liquid Force Envy?

Answer: I will give you what I feel are the pluses of each kite.

North Rebel – It has a larger wind range with quite a bit more on the bottom end. The North Rebel is a smoother kite due to 5 struts and the 5th line. 5th line safety - a bit better, but you also have to learn to deal with 5 lines. Not a big issue, but something to consider. Quality - North wins.

Liquid Force Envy - Faster turning. Down the line in waves the Envy just rocks - floats backward and is where you want it. I like the way you can steer the kite super easy with one hand. Max flow - you can't pump up a kite quicker, and it has only 3 struts to inflate.

Bar Systems are about equal - North Kites have above the bar depower and Liquid Force kites have below the bar depower.

I think the Rebel is a bit easier to learn on since it is more predictable.

The Envy is a bit more aggressive. If you are young and want to move toward wake style, it may be a better choice.

Both kites will work well for you, and you can stay with either brand and kite for many years to come.
