Description

Mid Range Propellers 10%

Set of 3

If you're chasing fast swell, trying to keep pace with quick bumps, or pushing your top-end speed, the MH 10% is your prop. It's 10% wider than the standard prop — same length, more blade surface area — which translates to stronger mid-range thrust, faster acceleration, and a higher top speed ceiling.

Surface motoring feels more controlled and efficient, and you'll notice better grip on re-entry and takeoff. The trade-off is some low-end thrust, so this prop rewards riders who are already comfortable on the foil and looking to go faster and farther.

Ideal for: Swell chasing, downwind riding, light-to-mid weight riders, efoil-proficient riders pushing for speed and efficiency gains.

What Foil Drive has to say:

More top end speed while also gaining more mid range thrust.

The Mid-High Range is 10% larger in width only to increase surface area, not the diameter.

Enjoy a boost in top speed and stronger mid-range thrust with the larger blade improving surface motoring and grip. The trade-off, a slightly slower take-off.

With it's mid range thrust improvement,  you'll also gain efficiency/longer runtime!

Benefits:

  • More top speed
  • Strong mid-range thrust
  • More controlled, efficient surface motoring
  • More traction/grip on take-off, re-entry
  • Smoother power delivery and take off

Trade-Offs:

  • Reduced low-end speed and low-end thrust

Who Is It For:

For light-mid weight rider Efoiling-Proficient  efoilers chasing efficiency and speed gains, happy to sacrifice some low end thrust

- ALL Disciplines
- Swell Chasing - Riders chasing down waves, or needing to keep up with fast bumps. More mid range thrust.

Session Impressions

Rider: Ryan  |  Conditions: Light wind, small fast swell

Today we're talking about the Foil Drive gray props, the mid-high range 10s — the forgotten — whatever you want to call them. They don't have as much traction or as much buzz as the blue props. However, after riding them today, I would say they are extremely undersold. For a lot of people, these are the props you want to be on.

They are a little bit harder to get up on because they take a little more time to get spinning. However, with practicing your technique, you'll get that dialed in pretty quickly in just a short bit. They are mid-high range 10s, which are 10% wider with the same length and same spinning diameter as the original black props. At a higher speed, they give you a little more thrust and a little more power, allowing you to ride at higher speeds.

They are super good for when those waves seem to be just escaping you and you can't quite get on them. Maybe they're outrunning you due to skill with your foil, or you're not able to stay up on foil enough, so you have to try and catch back up with the props. Or maybe they're just that fast that you have to run them down to get on them in the first place. I think there are a lot of applications here for these gray props. I was super impressed with them.

I'd say the only technical aspect that takes a little bit of work is the takeoff. Once you have that dialed in, they have tons of thrust and tons of power once you're up and motoring around. They're really easy to control and don't have too much of an issue with ventilating.

Today, we had some pretty fast-moving swell. It was small and hard to stay on top of, and there wasn't a ton of wind. So, I didn't need that super low end. The mid-high range was really where I needed to be dialed in, and these just crushed it in that application. There was nothing that I saw that I couldn't get on. They are super forgiving if you come off foil or the wave fades away. You can just throttle down, spin the prop up, dip it in the water, and catch back up to where the wave is reforming just downwind of it.

Key Takeaways:

  • Great for Speed and Swell: Excellent anytime you want to go a little bit faster, if you're chasing faster swell, or even if you want to increase your wave count.
  • Forgiving Performance: Easy to recover and catch back up to reforming waves if you come off foil.
  • Limitations: They are not going to excel in really high winds or situations where you need significant low-end thrust (such as with low-aspect, bigger foils). Those situations are better suited for the blue props.

For everything else, definitely give the gray props a try!
