Cabrinha built the new Contra on a light-weight, 3-strut platform to maximize its light-wind flying capability, while still keeping with the nuke-proof construction that you'd expect from Pete and the boys.

The shape and weight of things to come. The people spoke and Cabrinha Kites listened. The all new completely revamped 2014 Contra kiteboarding kite is a freeride lightwind dream machine. Cabrinha has made their new light wind kite fast turning with light bar pressure to allow you to ride all day. The kite has been "fatten" up for more grunt on the low end while still increasing the turning speed. The new direct steering via the 1XL overdrive bar makes every input direct to the rider for a great sense of where the kite is. We love the improved re-launch over the old Cabrinha Crossbow.
Cabrinha has introduced Micro Struts to keep your kite stiff (unlike no strut kites), but still keep the weight down. The micro struts allow for better wind flow across the kite to keep aerodynamic performance as high as possible. The bladders have also been put on a diet to trim even more weight out of the kite. The lighter the kite the happier it gets when the winds begin to drop below 12mph. With the new weight loss the 2014 Cabrinha Contra can be flown as light a 6 knots of wind and stay in the air.

2014 Cabrinha Kites 1X Bridle
In 2014 Cabrinha wanted to improve the direct feel of their bar to kite. Since safety is always paramount to Cabrinha kites the redeveloped their bar system to keep safety at the forefront while allowing a bridle with less pulleys and faster turning. All new 2014 kites run 2 pulley bridles except the Cabrinha Vector kite.
1X Security - maximum shut down in all conditions. Cabrinha's new 1X security line instantly flips over the kite putting all tension on the single security line.
Lowered V Connection - Cabrinha has lowered their center line connection point to equalize pressure on all control lines while the kite is in flight. The tension applied in flights keep the ARC locked in place while also adding twist to the kite for faster turning. The V also allows the kite to open up while on the water for ease of re-launch.

The Overdrive bar starts at a nice short 49cm for all the wake style riders and small kites. If you need to increase your turning speed or switch to a larger kite without running out new lines just adjust the bar out to 57cm and you are ready to go. Again Cabrinha kites pushes the envelope of kite technology with a super clean way to have 2 bars in one. Most important Cabrinha's new bar starts short and grows longer versus some system that start long and allow you to pull the lines inward.
New Cabrinha Overdrive 1X bar now offers faster turning on demand with the ability to length your bar as needed. By moving to the new Overdrive system Cabrinha kites is able to lower the front V connection to the CAS which provides a more direct input to your kite from you. After years of the super safe IDS system Cabrinha keeps safety at the top of the list with 90% shut down in all conditions. (Cabrinha claims 100%, but we feel this is not completely accurate since you still have a large sail flapping in the wind.)

Stretch - all nylon fabric stretches - some more than others. Kiteboarding kites are a single sheet of fabric with a ton of torque just trying to change the shape of the kite. If you have ever flow a kite with a ton of hours on it and the jumped on a fresh kite you can just feel the difference in the shape of the kite. With Cabrinha's new 2DR ripstop your canopy will stay crisp and nominally stretched for years to come.
Durability - All kiteboarding kites are susceptible to tears due to a high amount of force on a single skin. 2DR ripstop has a higher tear strength than standard nylon allowing you to crash with confidence.
