Dependability and versatility. The Unit is an all-rounder that lets you try out new disciplines and master your tried-and-true favorites. With updates for 2026, the Unit feels more balanced across different wind speeds, provides better on/off power, and has improved drift and steering.
Crash one too many times in your first sessions? That's okay, the MOD3 S Canopy creates a strong, durable profile. The reduced center profile and deeper quarter-span profile has refined sheeting angles for efficiency and performance. No doubt about it, the Duotone Unit is a reliable option for new and advanced riders.

Comparing the Unit Wing Collection
It seems like Duotone has upped their Unit game for 2026! So, what are the differences between them all? Let's break it down:
At the tippy top of Duotone's list is the Unit D/LAB/ Built with Aluula for the lightest, stiffest, and best responsive feel. The power-to-weight ratio and drift qualities make this a favorite for advanced riders.
Just below that sits the Unit SLS, which has a trimmed profile to reduce weight compared to the original Unit. Consider it a sweet spot for performance and affordability. The Concept Blue swaps for sustainable materials, including a bio-based bladder, undyed fabrics, and recycled plastic parts.
Finally, the standard Unit remains the reliable, all-round with good power delivery and solid drift. It's an affordable option for those getting into the sport!

Unit Original vs. SLS vs. D/LAB Guide
Available in three versions, there's a Unit for every rider. But, which one do you choose? The Original offers dependable performance, while the SLS adds premium Penta Dacron and an Aluula center panel for a crisper, more powerful ride, and the Concept Blue delivers the same performance as the SLS with eco-minded fabrics. The D/LAB pushes wing construction concepts with a full Aluula frame for one of the lightest wings on the market.

Session Impressions
We had a great north thermal kick in later in the afternoon. While it is still a little cold in Michigan, the water was warm enough that I didn't need gloves.
Equipment Used:
- Wings: 3.5m Duotone Unit and 2.5m Cabrinha Mantis
- Board: 70-liter KT board (2024 model)
- Foil: Code 850S
- Gear: Sooruz 6/5/4 hooded wetsuit and thick boots
I started the session with the 3.5m Duotone Unit, which felt quite overpowered. One of the standout features of the new 2026 Unit is its ability to float level with the waves. In the past, the unit would often drop down and get in the way while flagging it to ride a wave. With the new model, you can hold the handle and it floats right along with you.
The waves weren't particularly large because it was a straight north wind, but they picked up on the outside, providing some good opportunities for small rides. I am still dialing in my wave riding with the 850S foil, but I felt very comfortable going both frontside and backside.
Later in the session, the wind increased to a steady 25+ knots, prompting me to switch to my tried-and-true 2.5m Cabrinha Mantis. These north sessions offer a beautifully steady wind, making for a great ride with the group and an overall excellent session.
I initially rigged a 4.5m, but I was overpowered and switched to the tried-and-true 3.5m Duotone Unit, the non-SLS version with the boom.
- Wing: 3.5m Duotone Unit (non-SLS with boom)
- Board: 2024 70-liter KT
- Front Wing: Code 850S
I am really impressed with how the Duotone Unit handles in the waves and flags out. Even though it isn't a dedicated flagging wing, they put a lot of work into making the weight comparable so that it flies level and doesn't drop like previous units. I also appreciate having the boom. I wasn't a fan to begin with, but I enjoy the extra real estate it provides when you are grabbing at the wing while riding a wave. Being able to grab anywhere between those two handles without looking is a great benefit while I continue to learn how to ride waves with the front handle.
The Code 850S front wing is excellent for the waves. It has a very surfy feel and moves back and forth nicely without locking in. Because of the wave height, I was riding high on the mast to ensure I didn't clip the waves, which allowed me to maintain my speed through the turns. I am also looking forward to trying the KT Arc board, which seems to be a shop favorite. It was another great day on Lake Michigan.
