MAC's Take

Since its inception almost 20 years ago, the Contra has been an absolute machine for lightwind conditions. This naturally led to Cabrinha's designers looking at it for use with foiling, a super natural progression for the kite. The 1-strut iteration drops a lot of the weight that the 3-strut has, allowing for flight in much lighter conditions. Pair that with a quick response time and you've got an ultra foiling machine.

Grunty and effortlessly lightweight, the Contra 3S has been a staple of the lightwind kiting community for years and 2022 is no different. Surprisingly nimble in the smaller sizes, the Contra makes for a fun session when everyone else is standing on shore stuck staring at the water.

Brunotti Discovery w/ Straps

OVERVIEW

The Discovery is Brunotti's accessible freeride kiteboard with a fine flex that feels at home in all circumstances. The kiteboard has been given a wooden core that ensures the perfect balance between flex and pop.

This gives the Discovery a very comfortable feeling while riding, but you can still enjoy a nice jump or trick. It has SR-Tech sides and a responsive flex, which makes it easy and effortless to cut through chop. To top it off, it has a single concave in the bottom, which ensures that you can plan super easily. Ahh, the Spectrum. Tried and true, this board has been an absolute staple here at the shop for the last several years. In a testament to this board's capacity for progression and enjoyability of the ride even for advanced riders, our local Marc Hoeksema spends around 200-300 days of the year with some semblance of sail in his hands and he STILL loves to ride his Spectrum. 2023 F-One BIG ONE

Details:

The BIG ONE is fantastic for beginners or riders of a bigger stature, and those wanting a reliable low-wind platform for an easy Twin-Tip session. With its large surface area, this board focuses on grip and control to provide a super stable ride.

The board’s parabolic outline, rounded corners, and tight thin rails make it very intuitive and easy to control.

The deep double concave on the bottom offers great planing sensations and a smooth ride in all conditions. This significant bottom shape gives you a locked-in feel that keeps the board on track.

The extra length and width result in very easy and early planing starts, even at low speed, so you can focus on handling your kite while the board provides the support and edging needed.

The moderate flex allows the board to bend slightly under load. This increases the comfort and makes the board more manageable and less physical to ride. The extra rocker and pulled in tips will also help you get through rougher waters whenever necessary.

The fin positions are offset to maximize grip when the board is edging and for easy upwind performances.

The BIG ONE is available in 160x45cm and 164x48cm. Both sizes are equipped with four UNIBOX 50mm fins, which offer better speed and improved glide thanks to their thinner profile.
