2022 CABRINHA SWITCHBLADE PRODUCT REVIEW

When we talk about kite legacy, longevity and performance here at MACkite, the Switchblade is always at the top of the list. If you are just learning how to body drag, or practice your mega loops for the next KOTA, look no further: this is the kite for you. Coming into its 18th year on the market, the 2022 Switchblade arrives with some stellar performance upgrades. With the all new ceramic pulleys and a redesigned and rebalanced bridle system, the Switchblade has been updated to have the option for a faster turning speed and to lighten up the overall feel of the kite, making it not so grunty. This supercharged 5 strut is going to boost even higher because of the faster turning speed and add more control on the landings. The Switchblade paired with any of Cabrinha's Overdrive control bars make for a match made in heaven.

No kite has done more in the sport of kitesurfing than the Switchblade. For 02, Cabrinha has given the Switchblade a further performance boost. The redesigned and rebalanced bridle gives the option to not only increase the turning speed, but also lighten up the feel of the kite. A lighter faster kite not only extends the reach of this amazing product to different riders, but also allows for faster steering and control for jumping. The five strut stable frame of the Switchblade really comes into its own in the higher wind ranges. Here the legendary boost and hangtime of the Switchblade really shines.

How to pick your first package board:

Kiteboard Options

< Liquid Force PKG

The base model in our packages is the PKG, or package, board. It's a basic compression-mold twintip by Liquid Force. While it's a bit heavy and doesn't have a lot of flex, it's a great board to get you up and riding at a low cost. It's a free option in our packages, so if you're looking for a budget-friendly way to get out on the water, this might be the board for you.

It's a fine board for beginners who are learning to kiteboard. It has an offset single concave on the bottom, which gives you a little more grip while riding. However, you will likely progress out of it by your second year, which is why we have a board upgrade option in our packages.

2022 Brunotti Discovery Freeride Kiteboard >

The Discovery is lighter, flexier, and easier on the knees. Many riders will find it meets all their needs, but even riders looking to advance further in the sport won't outgrow it for 2-4 years.

Sizes: 132 x  40cm, 136 x 41cm, 140 x 42cm, 144 x 43cm

PKG vs. Discovery Weight (board only)

Weight can make a difference in upwind drive, jumping, and comfort on the water. You want to get the most time out of your sessions, and the less weight you have on your feet, the less quickly you will get fatigued. A lighter board is easier to maneuver as well. PKG 136cm - 7.5 lbs. 146cm - 9.1 lbs. Brunotti 136cm - 6.5 lbs. 144cm - 7.2 lbs.

Summary

Unless budget is a serious consideration, the Discovery will likely be a worthwhile upgrade. You'll get a lot more use out of the Discovery board because you won't outgrow it for a while, if ever, and once you do progress out of it, you'll be ready to move straight into a specialized board. You'll progress out of the PKG fast enough that you won't yet be ready for an advanced board and will still need to get an intermediate board like the Discovery.
