It is coming soon! The new max depower kite from Flysurfer that is named the Pulse.

http://www.flysurfer.de/Content/199/?mnid=480&mnid=480

I talked to the US importer, Ted, today and he said it should be out in early March. Ted also informed me that he was going to be demoing kites here in Michigan during February. He claimed that he should have a prototype Pulse by the time he comes to Michigan.

Now, if only there was a local Flysurfer dealer...

Don;

What is your take on the Pulse v Speed? Are these kites still in the $1,500 - $2,000 range?

I am working on finishing some boards but a bit stuck, beacuse of the worldwide carbon fiber shortage. I think I will shift to glass and kevlar. What about the "Flydoor"? I have lifted the shape and can cut a couple copies. Is it worthy?

Doc,

The Pulse is supposed to cost a little less than the Speed. I say "suppsed", because pricing is not available yet. Steve, @ Mackite, will have pricing for the Pulse by the end of the month. With the Mackite store policy of 20% off all kites, I don't think the price is going to be too bad. I expect the price to come in close to that of what Mackite sells a Naish Shockwave.

As for your question regarding the Flydoor, here is what a poll on kite forum had to say about the Flydoor.

Here is a translation of a German Kitesurf Magazine review of a prototype Pulse.
QUOTE
We were able to briefly try the Pulse in size 5m in Tarifa. Conditions: Gusty 35knts(Levante).
The 5m Pulse has been designed as a highwind kite to enable the rider to keep optimal control, even in very gusty conditions.
And truly, the Pulse absolutely shines in this area. Even in the strongest gust the Pulse remains stable in the sky. No tucking at all.
The turning is more direct and has little delay when compared to other Flysurfer kites. The Bar-feedback is pleasantly direct, comparable to the latest Bow-kites.
The biggest surprise is the depower of the Pulse: Here the Pulse can easily compete against the best Bows. Push the bar away and the pull almost stops completely. The safety system uses a 5th line which attaches to the centre of the kite (via 3 attachment points).
The windrange of the 5m Pulse is comparative to an 8m Tubekite. Only in the lower windrange the surface area of 5m doesn?t deliver the full performance. The constant and good pull drops of quickly in the lower windrange. Flying the kite up and down in the wind-window is then necessary in order to keep the Pulse happy. The Lift is very good but for getting top scores in hangtime the 5m is a little small. The turning speed is absolutely top and therefore the Pulse is highly recommended for use in waves. The soft power-delivery coupled with the very good depower gives the rider full control in any situation.
Next surprise: The Pulse is a waterstart(relaunch) wonder: The kite relaunches so quickly from the water that the rider sometimes gets taken by surprise.
The Pulse has a very direct flight-feeling, almost like a tubekite. Absolute top marks have to be awarded for Depower, turning and waterstart (relaunchability).
Respect to the Flysurfer development team.
Our prognosis: This kite will be a bestseller! Not only under Softkitefreaks.

Thanks for the tip on the podcast! I will have to check that out.

Here is a video of the Pulse in action. I can't wait to get out on it. I am expecting it by the end of the month.

I came across the suggested retail for the Pulse line and I found it was camparable in price with the Switchblade.

Due to the flatter profile of the Pulse vs the C shape of the SB I compared the kites so they would have similar projected area and power.

Pulse...........Switchblade
13m............16m
$1669..........$1649
10m.............12m
$1429..........$1499
7m...............9m
$1189..........$1399
