Ebb and Flow: Lessons from Riding Giants | Dave Kalama | TEDxMaui

Thought this would be a good one to share with it being the start of 2015. His advice is really simple and fitting when you take on new goals and project with the start of the new year. And when you are feeling like you may have bitten off more that you can chew we hope you remember this talk and do not simply give up. Thanks Dave for Sharing your experience with us!

From YouTube:

"This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Pioneering waterman Dave Kalama, one of the most iconic big wave surfers in the world, tells the story of how he survived his scariest day on the water. Taking place at Maui's Peahi, or "Jaws", his tale keeps you on the edge of your seat and leaves you in awe of the human ability to focus our way through the worst of times.

Maui’s own surf icon and big wave pioneer, world champion ocean athlete.

Dave Kalama is a Hawaiian waterman who hails from a long line of surfing legends. After making waves as a world champion windsurfer, Dave evolved into a surf icon, helping to pioneer the sport of big-wave, tow-in surfing. With stand up paddle surfing (SUP) and racing now added to his repertoire, he competes annually in races and channel crossings.

Dave is not only renowned for his athletic prowess, but also for his year-round training ethic and innovative approach to the sport. He has been featured in countless magazine articles and instructional videos, as well as several full-length feature and documentary films. When he’s not in the water or in front of the camera, Dave actively endorses Hawaii’s watersports and is an ardent supporter of autism and cystic fibrosis research, and ocean health and safety initiatives."
