Shop Reviews on the 2016 Mono

Aaron, an old cat w/ a new riding style...

"I rigged up with the 2016 North 5th Element Bar, on 24M lines. I prefer that bar for a light-wind relaunch and for self-landing when it’s absolutely nuking. Off to the side of the window for the self-launch, and up she goes. What a noticeably simple design this kite has. The leading edge curve reminds me of the North Evo, while the depth and wing-tip shape has the North Neo written all over it. Given that the Mono and Neo are touted as having more pound-for-pound power than most other kites in the North line, I decided to have a go. Normally, I would have pumped up my 2016 North Juice 18M and been done with it. But this Mono 12M had me curious. After a quick “power check” of the wind strength, I grabbed my 6’0” Rusty Dwart and took off. My first thought, when on the water was, “Wow, this thing is really fun!"

What North has to say about the 2017 Mono

The Mono is a modern one strut design best suited to the accomplished Freerider wanting to travel light and advance on a Twin Tip, Directional or Foil. Stripping it back to basics, the Mono takes inspiration from the Neo where a soft bar feel and linear power development are key. The Mono is easy to relaunch, offers a stable canopy and a very smooth handling. A very light but also very robust kite in a simple package.  Completely new to the range is a 15sqm for light wind riding on a twintip, directional or foil! Get ready to enjoy a playful ride powered by a simple design.

North Technology

Dacron and Technoforce D2

Teijin is the world’s leading supplier for polyester fabrics and sail materials for all kinds of marine sports. We use the remarkably durable Teijin Dacron for our leading edge, struts, wingtips and wherever high tension or an applied load is found. Technoforce D2 is used for our canopy. Technoforce D2 was an exclusive coating development for North Kiteboarding, which has proven its superiority in durability and dynamics since we started using it.

Fusion Strut

All bladders are produced of high quality Polyurethane. This material is known for its high elasticity in different temperatures and resistance to pressure. The modern welding technique ensures durable seams and binds the material together perfectly.

Lazy Pump

The North Kiteboarding Lazy Pump system enables the inflation of the kite from just one valve. Clips close off struts from leading edge to prevent unwanted airflow in case of damage or simply to only deflate the leading edge.

Self Rescue Handles

The self-rescue handles on the inside of the wingtips can be easily found in case of an offshore break down. They provide a good, comfortable grip while sailing back to the shore during a self-rescue manoeuvre.

2017 North Control Bar Options

2017 North 5th Element Control Bar

-db-3126.pngThe 2016 North 5th Element Bar is a 5-line bar that has become synonymous with safety and reliability. Infused with new bright colors, the bar otherwise remains largely the same. Key features include a soft and ergonomic bar grip, flip-flop bar adjustability, winding posts with integrated backline adjustment, and integrated EVA floaters to avoid line tangling and giving better overall stiffness between the bar and lines.

2017 North Quad Control Bar

-db-3126-2-.pngPresenting the 2017 Quad Control bar. Identical in design to the 5th Element bar, it's best suited to 4 line kite models where the front line safety setup is steadfast. When released – via the Iron Heart IV - the Quad Control ensures that the kite rests powerless on the water at the edge of the wind window, allowing you time to gather yourself safely before relaunching. With a flowing feel, the Quad Control is responsive, straightforward and reliable.

Of all the latest innovations, the North Click Bar might be our favorite to date. With 6 years of development and testing in secret, North is bringing an incredibly refined and clever design to the market. This is a very streamlined, clean-looking control bar. Even better, one size fits all and it will work on most brands. For those of you riding the Rebel or fans of North's 5 line system, there is a 5th line element upgrade kit available.
